It makes me want to go to New Zealand!
Went throught the whole book in one take.The photographs are so amazing, they instantly transport you to New Zealand and the words just reiterate the beauty of that luscious land.Great for anyone who is just merely curious or planning a trip to NZ.You feel the love the author has for his homeland - he is not only talented, he is gifted. I want to quit my job and travel.
I read Liza's first book "Just Cruising" and couldn't wait to read the sequel. I really enjoyed reading about her trip around the world. I wanted to leave my job behind and join her family. What an exciting life!

An Excellant Follow-up to, "Just Cruising."
This is an excellant follow-up to the book, "Just Cruising." Itis written in everyday language with descriptions and annodotes that putsthe reader in the boat with the Copelands. As in her first book, Mrs.Copeland covers the subjects most sailors are interested in and leaves outthe mudane. No maps and positions, no how to repair or replace, just goodfun on a trip around the world. "it deserves little credit as a scholarly undertaking"
"the second edition of Karolle's ATLAS OF MICRONESIA...is better produced than the first edition... The tragedy is that it could have been so much better with only a little more effort... The text cries out for good editing... With good editing the text probably could have been condensed by about a third... As in the first edition, the section on climate and weather comes long after that on physical geography, an anachronism that necessarily detracts from the understanding of intervening sections... [Karolle's atlas] is overly concerned with minutiae and irrelevancies... There are many errors in the book... There are many curious phrases that may confuse readers...There are still other places where the facts are dated... Sections of the book are dull and ponderous... In reviewing the first edition of the ATLAS OF MICRONESIA, Connell hoped that the second edition would be definitive. Sadly to report it is not--indeed many deficiencies of the first edition remain. The Only One - could be more accurate though
This book is the only one available that describes Australia's national parks from a wildlife-watching point of view - other guides available in Australia concentrate on scenic spots and facilities for holidaymakers.
Great book for tourists
This is a great book for someone touring Australia. I would have given five stars had the been more parks listed.

The Only Guide Of Its Kind On Australian Wildlife
As a wildlife photographer I was very keen to find out where were the easiest places in Australia to see wildlife. This was the only book I have been able to find of this kind. The guide lists the best locations to see wildlife by state, often with very specific details. It also provides a brief description of some of Australia's most popular wildlife and what are the hotspots for viewing that particular species. A Very Poor Guide! :-(
Once upon a time, Lonely Planet had a good guide to Papua New Guinea (371 pages), and an excellent one to the Solomon Islands (279 pages). For better or worse these fascinating countries don't exactly attract hordes of holidaymakers, so after leaving those books unupdated for many years, the publisher now has decided to dump them together in this new edition (272 pages).
Great guide book
As usual for the lonely planet guides, a well researched and detailed travel guide. I have not been to Papua New Guinea yet, so I can not comment on the accuracy of the information, but there is a wealth thereof. I respect the author's achievement, as it is obviously much easier to research for a travel guide about a European country where most people speak English and credit cards are accepted than for a pre-industrial place like Papua New Guinea, still mostly unspoiled by westernization.

Interesting story - biological and anthropological
Flannery is the Principal Research Scientist at the Australian Museum. This book recounts several of his expeditions in Papua New Guinea and Irian Jaya in the 80s and 90s.
Amazing scientist, unexceptional writer.
Without a doubt Tim Flannery ranks with the world's greatest scientist/explorers.He has a wealth of fascinating and valuable tales to tell from his travels to New Guinea.However, the book has little coherent structure.It's just a series of (mostly) unrelated stories, like he might recount over dinner.The details of his trips are incredible, but by the time I was half way through, I began losing my interest and felt I was re-reading previous passages.

Breathtaking, humorous and poignant
Flannery is one of a kind.He is to New Guinea what Perry and Amundson are to the poles, a first-comer .... one of the first to explore and document the stone age peoples of the mysterious island wilderness in the last days of its age of innocence.

large scale two sided map
North Island on one side, South Island on the other, this map is in scale 1:1,000,000.Elevations are color coded and roads are clearly indicated as highway, major road or expressway.I haven't used it yet as our trip will be later this year.However, I have inspected it and it appears to have everything that I consider important in a map. ... Planned my entire vacation - great reference
My husband and I took a 18 day trip from Sydney to Cairnes, and used this book for almost all of our motels/B&B's, etc. We were looking to budget less than $100/night for rooms, and all the recommendations in this book were spot-on.The maps of towns are okay, but you'll want a full-size map to get around with and figure distances, too.

I could not have written a better one myself....well, maybe.
This book is perfect for seeing the east coast of Australia by car, but will work just as well if traveling by bus, moped, etc. A friend and I had been planning to drive the east coast, visiting national parks and doing lots of hiking, so when I saw this book I knew it was perfect. As with all titles in the LP family, it lists many places to stay/eat based on price range, which is really nice when you are traveling on a limited budget. There are many hikes listed in the book, along with museums, oddities, and points of interest along this 'classic overland route.' My only complaint about the book is that I wish the authors had listed traveling distances between major cities at the beginning of each section, so the reader doesn't have to add up each little segment on the maps.
