3-0 out of 5 stars It's OK, but nothing special--basic review of 11 trips
I was hoping for a more comprehensive view of truly the BEST RV trips.Instead, it was more of a travelogue of the author's most recent 11 trips. Not necessarily what I would have considered to be the best trips. So ifyou have time to read the stories of the trips, it's fine. But I wouldn'tuse it as your RV Bible to plan the absolute best trips possible (which iswhat was implied by the title). ... Editorial Review

A reliable guide is essential when venturing off into the 948,596 square kilometers that make up British Columbia, and Moon's Handbook is the guide of choice. Covering recreation, accommodations, food, transportation, and sights for Southwestern, Central, and Northern British Columbia, Vancouver and Vancouver Island, plus the Rocky Mountains, Okanagan Valley, and the Kootenays, it's an exceptionally valuable tome of information.Whether you're looking for a sophisticated big city Vancouver holiday, going for high tea in Victoria, viewing Haida totem poles on the Queen Charlotte Islands, hiking the West Coast Trail, or canoeing the lakes in the Cariboo Mountains, the Moon Handbook is up-to-date and on the money. 5-0 out of 5 stars B.C. Handbook
Excellent book for travel to BC.We have used other Moon Books on travel and have been very pleased with all of them

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Help
This was the first of the Moon books I'd ever used and I was very impressed. There was a ton of useful information on general Canadian travel, but the bulk of the book is devoted to the various regions and the best of what there is to see and do. In places like Vancouver, where there are lots of museums, he discusses these; on Vancouver Island he tells all you'll need to know about water activities; in the Okanagan Valley he chooses his favorite wineries, etc. I'd been to BC previously, but visited a few great spots that I wouldn't have found without this book. The author concentrates on 3 or 4 places to stay and a similiar number of restaurants in each town and he has obviously done his research well as I couldn't find fault with the recommendations that cover all price ranges.5-0 out of 5 stars My favourite guidebook for British Columbia
I know of no better book to my home province of British Columbia than this Moon guide. On my travels as a semi-retired geologist, I also carry copies of the Lonely Planet and Frommer's book and have reviewed both of them and others at Amazon.com, but Moon Handbooks British Columbia stands alone for its usefulness. The other books have their good points, but this one encapsulates everything one needs to enjoy the wonders of the province, whether it's their first trip or they live here. It covers every single corner of BC and is thorough and up to date.Read more

I love using Rough Guides and this was no exception. However I would've liked more info on cheaper restaurants, but I guess in a city like Toronto you can just walk a few steps and find a gem among the rocks.
4-0 out of 5 stars Convenient Guide to Toronto
This book is ideal for a short trip to Toronto or for those who don't care to carry large, bulky books with them on vacation. Most of the information is short, to the point, with a minimum of color commentary. There is asection devoted to the history of the city and references to other booksfor those who want more information. The book is small enough to fit in abackpack or even a coat pocket so it can be carried with you.Probably notideal for an extended stay, but overall helpful. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars LEADING GUIDE TO RANCH VACATIONS IN NORTH AMERICA
The recently published 7th edition of Gene Kilgore's Ranch Vacations describes over 90 guest, resort, fly-fishing, and Winter ranches in North America.Whether you are looking for a private getaway, a working dude ranch, or resort for the whole family, this is by far the most comphrensive guide available in bookstores today.Author Gene Kilgore, widely considered the recognized authority on ranch vacations, has traveled thousands upon thousands of miles to tell you the reader tidbits of information about the setting, rates, activities, accomodations, dining options, entertainment and children's programs. He also includes helpful advice on how best to reach your destination. As in past editions, Kilgore has included wise sage tips on choosing the right ranch, what to pack, helpful maps, and a wonderful glossary of ranch terms. The 7th edition of this book sits on a shelf in my personal study alongside the six previous editions and will no doubt help me plan yet another ranch vacation for my family as we love to relive the time honored traditions of dude ranching.I commend the author on his commitement to opening the eyes of his readers to the beauty that is ranch country.Happy trails await you. ... My mother swore by the Purity Cookbook.I always remembered the great meals that were based on it's recipes. When I saw that it was again in print I had to get it.Great cookbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic cookbook
A Canadian of 23 years old, she packed her bags and headed off to be a nursing missionary in the highlands of Papua New Guinea, and her mother sent with her this cookbook. Well, the pages of the Purity Cookbook are torn and stained with dirt from PNG. Then across to Australia she came to settle down with a new husband. How often this cook book was used you would not believe, the pages have notes written on them (some are now almost impossible to read), some pages are torn, others are missing and almost all pages have been impregnated with ingredients! 5-0 out of 5 stars This was the baking and cooking bible in our home
My father, who was and still is the cook in my childhood home, used this cookbook so much it is now beyond ragged.I bought a used original edition copy on EBay awhile ago for myself, but I was very excited to see that it was reissued and I bought two more copies for my brother and cousin. The recipes in this book are excellent. My husband swears by the pancake batter recipe. My father has made every pie, cookie, roll etc recipe. You will not regret ordering this cookbook. ... Editorial Review

What can you do with a Pentax and vast amounts of ice and water? If your name is Robert Ketchum, there are no limits, not even the sky. The Northwest Passage, the Waterloo of many accomplished seamen, became the dream--and obsession--of former U.S. Treasury Secretary William Simon, who traversed the elusive and dangerous region in a yacht during the summer of 1994. Ketchum, hired to chronicle the 23-day expedition from Alaska, through Canada and the Northwest Territories to Greenland, produced stunning results; an on-board helicopter enabled him to photograph the terrain as no Arctic image maker before. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great but Damaged
I knew that Robert Glenn Ketchum's book The Northwest Passage would be a great book, but I was surprised to see the low price of $9.98. Now I know why. About 5 pages had been double printed with two pages of text on one page. Also a few pages of images had been overprinted. I hope this involves only my copy and not all the others that are being offered.

3-0 out of 5 stars Etheral photos of ice, snow, the sky and water
If you're looking for a photography book with 'beautiful, Kodak moment' pictures of wildlife, the Inuit, wild flowers upon the tundra, etc., this is NOT for you. But, if you like "nature" photography at its minimalist best, these photographs are glorious, providing, like me, you enjoy looking at photos of fog upon the water and the patterns that ice floes make upon the land and sea.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, engaging, but not brilliant
I read this book soon after it came out, as a middle school student.I remember being fascinated by the author's experiences and depictions of life in post-soviet Russia.I went on to study political science, become fluent in Russian, and pursue a masters in Russia itself.I remembered this book recently, though I've not seen it since I first read it, and I was compelled to get a copy... remembering how initially enthralled I once was.Perhaps due to age... personal experiences... etc, this book is just not as good as I remembered.I almost wish I had not gone back to read it, as I was a little disappointed.
2-0 out of 5 stars An extended tabloib column
This is not a profound book. Though at times comical and endearing it reads a bit like an extended tabloid column. There is a tendency at trivializing the events in the former soyuz (the union) with the aim of offering us a pastiche of civil society there, but there is little effort to go beyond the events. The post-modern title is very telling in that sense.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!
As a young woman in my late-20s with a passion for politics, travel, and brainy adventure -- I couldn't recommend this book more highly... I looked forward to reading each chapter: each one a portrait of a people and a culture, painted so vividly I felt like I could jump right in.I read this book for the first time a few years ago... it was a gift that I received before beginning my own adventures in grad school where I'm studying Eastern European politics. Of the many books I have read about Russia, this remains my favourite -- Gould's down-to-earth writing style, lively descriptions, as well as the sensitivity and warmth she brings to her subjects -- are nothing short of inspiring. Not only have I read this book many times over the past few years, but also it remains a favourite to give as gifts for friends...Go ahead, take the journey to the FSU with a funny, bright, clever and downright wonderful writer... it'll be the best armchair adventure you'll ever take!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Practical Planner for a Canadian Rockies Vacation
Moon Travel's "Canadian Rockies Handbook" is packed with the practical information needed to plan a great vacation in the Canadian Rockies. In a well-organized format, the handbook covers how to get there, what to see and do, where to stay, and a nice slice of commentary on the various towns and other sites of interest. The discussion about accomodations includes a decent range of prices and facilities. The focus is on the area in and around Banff and Jasper National Parks, a stunningly beautiful area with endless opportunities for outdoor recreation, sight-seeing, and relaxation. The handbook includes maps and diagram that are sufficiently detailed to enable to visitors to get to the main points of interest. The handbook also provides information on popular hikes, golfing, and white water rafting, among other activities.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mis- information
We were disappointed in the inaccuracies in the information regarding Quebec City. The listing for the Auberge St. Antoine indicated two levels of parking (valet and self park); in fact the hotel only offers valet parking and for considerably less than listed in the book. The hours for at least one of the tourist attractions were not correct. The biking information does not include the nice trail in Levis accross the St. Lawrence and accessible by ferry (no car required); instead, the book sends you to an island that requires a car and does not have traffic free paths.

3-0 out of 5 stars Traveling to Quebec? Dont forget your guide.
As many Frommers traveling books, this one will help the reader to get along the city and take advantage of his travel. Having this book handy in your backpack will make your walking tours, dinning and staying a truly unforgettable experience. It is amazing how it describes to the detail many places that no other way you would consider visiting. Even though Frommers is a guarantee istelf, consider buying a better city map to get along, since the one in the book is a little confusing and incomplete.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great help in enjoying two wonderful Canadian cities
In preparing for a trip to Montreal and Quebec, I was pleasantly surprised to find a book that covered both cities. It was easy to read and findspecific information. The different maps were very helpful while walkingaround both cities -- although I used actual road maps for drivingdirections.Keeping in mind that having two cities means less informationabout each -- I found the information was the right amount to help us makeimportant decisions or ask the right questions when we made reservations. It certainly will help you find the "must see" spots as itprovides recommendations for a one-, two- or three-day visit.I often readthe short description of a site aloud before we visited. We changed ourhotel reservations based on the book.As a result, we saved $10 per night(which more than paid for the book) and got free meals for the children --a huge savings over three days. Bottomline -- a good, easy-to-use book withvaluable information -- especially for first or second time visitors. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A hilarious, pointed set of true observations
So, what constitutes 'Canadian culture' and elements of Canada? From notorious plastics which take twice as long to decompose to a special kind of screw and driver used only in Canada, there's a host of oddities uniquely Canadian which Douglas Coupland here sets out to capture visually and in text description. A hilarious, pointed set of true observations, all backed with color photos.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clearly Canadian (and better than the first!)
This SECOND collection of imagery and musings from Famous Canadian Writer Douglas Coupland didn't always strike a chord with me.I'm from a different part of the country, with different history and experiences, of course.
