4-0 out of 5 stars woodalls north american campground directory 2005
This is the first book we bought about anything related to camping and we brought it with us on our second trip. It was a life saver. We wanted to stop somewhere else on our way home and were able to find all the information we needed. The size of our space is important to us along with privacy and distance to local attractions. We found a lot of that information at each areas listing, along with a map of each state. Every camper needs a directory.

4-0 out of 5 stars Woodalls
Excellent book, sometimes the woodalls ratings are quite my opinion but otherwise a great source.

5-0 out of 5 stars Woodall's NA Campground Directory has got it all
The directory is great. You can find all the campgrounds in the area by looking up the city name.It tells you all the facilities available at the campground. You can find the phone number, web site information...anything that you need in order to make reservations. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable reference
An invaluable reference book for those interested in urban park design. Tate has surveyed 20 city parks in Western Europe and North America ranging from tiny Paley Park New York to the whole of the Minneaplois Park system. He has described each systematically under the heads of History, Development, Planning and Design, Management and Usage, and Plans for the future, and then drawn conclusions.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A Big Let Down
I have used Lonely Planet travel guides for years.Yet, I am sorry to say that this one is a real let down. The lay out is not user friendly. The print styles are very difficult to read. The book is not directed to the outdoors person as was the hallmark of the series.I was throughly dissappointed in this guide. The Moon guide is a vastly superior guide to this area.

4-0 out of 5 stars great all around bk
maybe b/c we're hikers, we wish there was even more info on hiking in these parks! but the hiking info in the bks we thought very helpful. we thought the bk did a great job hitting all different tourists' needs. we especially appreciated all the little charts of "must see's," the basic info (post offices, laundry, etc.), the many well-laid out maps, etc.
1-0 out of 5 stars For Hikers Only
I own and use several Lonely Planet Guides. I have come to trust these books as thorough, authoritative and helpful in planning and implementing trips. The Banff, Jasper & Glacier National Parks book is an exception and meets none of these criteria unless you sole focus is hiking. This book is for hikers and has little information for others. Furthermore, of the 280 pages of actual information, only 57 pages are devoted to Glacier National Park. Information concerning lodging, restaurants and other activities such as cycling is sparse. The few maps that are included detail mainly hiking trails. If this book had been titled A Hikers Guide, I would highly recommended it. ... Read more

It is the best book on Camping in Mexico's Baja that I've seen.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Guide
We've traveled in Baja California three times and wouldn't do it without this book. Roads, campgrounds, gas stations, all are described in detail and tell you what to expect. Everything you need to know about crossing the border is here. Even on our first trip, we felt fully prepared. We could select what we wanted to see and where we wanted to stay, confident that our trip would be as described in the book. ... Read more

Although the book does not contain exactly what I was looking for (detail highway maps)I found the information very helpful for a planned trip.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Park Guide
I have used the Canada guide in the past when visiting Banff, but this book provides more in depth coverage of the parks (Banff and Jasper). If your primary visit is to these places, I would recommend this book as an excellent guide!

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical Planner for a Canadian Rockies Vacation
Moon Travel's "Canadian Rockies Handbook" is packed with the practical information needed to plan a great vacation in the Canadian Rockies. In a well-organized format, the handbook covers how to get there, what to see and do, where to stay, and a nice slice of commentary on the various towns and other sites of interest. The discussion about accomodations includes a decent range of prices and facilities. The focus is on the area in and around Banff and Jasper National Parks, a stunningly beautiful area with endless opportunities for outdoor recreation, sight-seeing, and relaxation. The handbook includes maps and diagram that are sufficiently detailed to enable to visitors to get to the main points of interest. The handbook also provides information on popular hikes, golfing, and white water rafting, among other activities.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best, most practical guide
Best and most useful information for trip.Well written and concise.Much better and more useful than Frommer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Thorough
I'm going to the Canadian Rockies for my honeymoon, and I couldn't ask for a better guide. The author includes every detail one could want. I'm looking forward to using it on the trip. I can tell I've chosen the right place, because the author himself has chosen to live there! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't go to Algonquin without it!
We bought this book last year at the Algonquin Visiters Centre. After reading it from cover to cover we agreed on a four day canoe route for our family. We just got back from that canoe trip. Wow did we have a great time! Without Kevin's book we were clueless about planning our first family canoe trip. After all, Algonquin is 3,000 square miles of wilderness.

3-0 out of 5 stars Glacier National Park in Canada
Note that the Glacier National Park mentioned in this book is in Canada, not the United States.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent & an Excellent Value (4 Parks in One Book)
The only reason I usually buy Falcon Guides is if there's no other guide for that park, I think they're just OK. But the two women that wrote this one did an excellent and thorough job. The descriptions for each trail tell you what to expect at literally almost every turn. (They'll say things like "at 1.3 kilometers you'll come to this mountain, at 1.6 km you'll reach a lake where the turn can be hard to find, so..." etc.) If you've ever had to find your way through a poorly marked national park trail, you'll know how valuable that can be. Also, they have the guts to come out and say things like "this trail is too much work for not enough scenery" and then back it up with evidence, not just leave it as their opinion. This will probably let you save a lot of time if your vacation time is limited, as it usually is. I would have liked to see a few more pictures, but other than that they did a great job. Plus, it has four national parks in one book, so it's a pretty good value. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of many guidebooks to Vancouver
I am a frequent traveler to Vancouver, and over the years have picked up a variety of books to city, and recently found this one in a Seattle bookstore. It is a smallish guide, but contains everything a traveler needs to make the most of a visit. I like to get out and about when on business-related travel, and found that the book has led me to many interesting places I never new existed (I had a great morning sea kayaking up the Indian Arm on the author's reccomendation). I also like reading about those quirky facts about places that are hard to come by, and again, the author knows the city well from the inclusion of many of these facts (Vancouver: Secrets of the City is a book devoted to the subject). The section on restaurants is extremely comprehensive, with all price ranges covered, and I found the author's picks spot on. The book ends with a chapter on nearby Victoria, a helpful addition. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very comprehensive
A very comprehensive and detailed guide to many of the lesser known trails (as well as the more known ones). Many of the maps are good, some are clearly lacking detail; however, it allows the natural sense of adventureto flourish in the beautiful environs. The book provides a wonderfuloverview of the area when the chapters are put together. Mike's directionalordering made it very easy to connect one trail with another for a day ofsmall hikes or a day of longer hikes.I traveled too late to stay at anyof the backcountry campsites covered; however, we did follow some of thehikes to/from, and they were incredible.I highly recommend travelling tothis area immediately after Labor Day as there are fewer crowds. ... My family and I have been using woodalls directories for years.Allways informative and acurate.I will definatly buy another one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Woodalls North American Directory
Woodalls North American Campground Directory is a valuable asset for any camper. It is a huge book, but the size is necessary to cover the campgrounds of North America. It is divided into east and west reagions and then alphabetically by state in each region. You an purchase the east orwest region directories separately, but if you plan to camp in bothregions, it it less expensive to purshase the North American directory. Thesection for each state begins with information of interest about differentareas of the state. There is a map of the state showing the cities wherecampgrounds are located. The campgrounds are then listed by city and manyof them are rated for camparisons. Last year's prices are listed to givethe reader some idea of this year's costs. Phone numbers and directions tothe campgrounds are provided as well. This directory is a valuable resourcefor the camper. It is a guide one can use for a couple of years beforereplacing it. This writer has been using Woodalls North American CampgoundDirectory since the 1996 edition. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A rip-off
I bought this book thinking I would find where to stay and visit on some great tours through Washington. I live here and all of their tours are already well known - I hoped for something different. They talk about spending several days touring Seattle! This is not an adventure for somebody in an RV to make - traffic is terrible. Not at all what I thought or it sounded from editorial reviews.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and not really what the title says
The book is called "A Camping Guide", so I was expecting a guide to camping, campgrounds, etc. Well, it's more like a suggested trip guide with very little (5 lines) information per campground. Also, they list only very few, only those which are on their suggested trips. Even though not a complete loss (the trips are kind of nice), I think the title is completely misleading. Also there are 5 trips for WA, 2 for Oregon, and 1 for BC... very Washington centric. I also don't quite understand why a camp guide needs information about downtown Seattle.... not many people camping there last time I checked. If I want a tourist guide for Seattle, I buy one and there are many better ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Take this book in one hand and drive on!
Now this is an RV guidebook. The book is separated into 1 tour per chapter(there are 8 tours in all) - and included in each chapter are suggestions for what to see and where to camp plus pictures of some of thecampsites. They seemed to like the less commercial more nature orientedones that I prefer. I especially liked the shopping mentions as all hikingand no shopping makes me a dull girl! While I won't follow the toursexclusively, they give me a heads up on places and sites not to miss and Ilook forward to putting this guidebook to use very soon. ...
