5-0 out of 5 stars Bundle with Party Europe
I agree with Juanito's review. This guide rocks. If you really want to have the best time of your life, buy a copy of Party Europe as well. Let's Go tells you where to stay and eat, Party Europe will tell you how to have fun. Great combination. Can't wait to head back to the old country.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Excellent!
This book is the perfect base guide if you are travelling in Europe. If you are doing mostly Western Europe (Italy, France, Spain, Britain, Netherlands, etc.) I would recomment definetly. It is a little more in depth that the regular Let's Go Europe and it still has the main northern and Eastern Europe cities like Budapest, Prague, Helinsky, Copenhaguen, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Frommer's Italy - By Jai Kapadia
Having grown up in Italy for 15 years, I think I understand the place really well, but I still learnt a lot from this book. Great indepth coverage on restaurants, hotels and places to visit. Plus the color maps are very useful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Should have bought it earlier
This is a great book for planning your travel.I wish I'd bought it before I'd booked my leave. The only downside I can think of is the included map. From the product description I thought it would be of all Italy but it's only a map of Rome.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very complete travel guide!
Frommer's Italy 2006 is a very complete and easy to read travel guide. I especially enjoyed the restaurant tips (off the beaten track and very "Italian") and the maps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Typical Frommer's
I usually enjoy the Frommers format and approach to guidebooks and this one is no exception. It is beautifully detailed on the major cities but I found it less so for smaller and rural places. At times, the maps, especially town maps, are not that detailed but that is for me a lesser problem as I always get or buy proper maps from the tourist office / hotel / bookshop. On the other hand, it does have nice diagrams of the major museums. I also love the long lists and detailed descriptions of restaurants as well as the sections on what to do after dark in the major cities. However, I needed another guide once I wandered off the better-known and more rural destinations.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good but no Great
I recently went to Germany for the world cup and found this book somewhat helpful but really the Lets Go Germany gave me much better advice on how to see Germany on a budget.Lets face it we are all on a budget these days.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fine guide but leaves out too many interesting areas
A fine, well-written guide if it covers the places you want to go. I found it leaves out completely too many areas of Germany and focuses only on the well-known tourist areas. These areas are covered very well with comprehensive and easy to use hotel and restaurant listings.

This is a beautiful book and the author and photographer have done a splendid job in choosing a variety of homes so the book is very eclectic which also makes it a fun book.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Source Books So Far!
Of the many books I've read and collected on French Country style and decorating, this is the best and most thorough. The book is set up into categories and is concise, beautifully depicted in large color photos, with accompanying text.NOT a coffee table book, but a true reference book for French Country decorating. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A usefull ADD on
This book is ok to augment your other language course, which should include a cd, dvd or cassette. Without that you wonmt understand how to pronounce anything. I found teh stickers useful as I wanted to be able to read russian rather than just 'parrot' it. whle i agree with most of the negative reviews I did find myself referring to this book quite often, BUT i also own teh pimsleur and 'in your car' russian cds. If this came with a CD it would be great.
2-0 out of 5 stars 10 minutes a day, everyday for the next 30 years...
Be wary of any Russian course that promises quick, effortless results.Learning Russian grammar is like putting together a 5000 piece jigsaw puzzle. Without a picture, it's pretty tedious. This book will not help you get "the picture". It teaches 1st/2nd conjugation verbs and a couple of necessary irregular verbs, but that's all the grammar you get.You do get some basic vocabulary words, but not ones that will help you very far in conversational situations. If you are a traveler and need a crash course to survive your trip through Russia, a good phrase book will better serve you. Finally, I have no idea why this book is called "10 minutes a day", there is no plan of attack included to tell you how to meter your studying, and 10 minutes is a little short to get something like Russian to sink into your brain.

2-0 out of 5 stars Big book, pretty pictures, not much to learn.
This book might be okay for kids, but it's not really a serious learning tool.Learning a language in ten minutes a day may be a fun fantasy, but the resources available in this book won't do much to help you learn Russian.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Get the Best German Dictionary on the Market!
This is the best German dictionary by far that I have used in the past 30 years, it's truly outstanding.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent desk reference
This is a great dictionary to have regardless of how new you are to German. With over 850,000 entries, this is not only a standard German-English, English-German dictionary, it includes dozens of idiomatic permutations for nearly every entry, helping with context, sentence structure, conversational usage--everything. It's especially good for students and businesspeople who need to strengthen their German. This dictionary has proven to be very helpful even in the short time since I've bought it, and I can definitely say that it was money well spent.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great reference tool and aid to learning German
My school district purchased 8 copies for my German classroom. This dictionary has a type face that is easy to read and the English section is found in the front, which my students prefer. The best features are the focus on colloquial usage and the extensive inclusion of idiomatic phrases and meanings. It is, in my opinion, simply the best German-English dictionary available. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Amsterdam travel guide
This is my 3rd or 4th Eyewitness guide that I have purchased. They give you a lot of info in a compact book. It includes not only points of interest but also provides the "must see". Each guide also includes maps, mass transit, translation of phrases, restaurant, hotel, and general tips to make your trip more enjoyable and safer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, but...
I am giving this book 5 stars because I think it does an excellent job covering the city of Amsterdam. The illustrations are fantastic, the tips are helpful, all of the major points of interest are covered (and then some) and it is up-to-date. I'm a big fan of the Eyewitness travel guides, and this book certainly won't come as a disappointment to those who are familiar with their books.

Editorial Review

The essence of London, found "in the swing, tramp, and trudge; in the bellow and uproar; the carriages, motor cars, omnibuses, vans, sandwich men shuffling and swinging; brass bands; barrel organs; in the triumph and the jingle and the strange high singing of some aeroplane overhead..." (Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Smart, User-Friendly Guidebook Has Legs After Your Trip to London
From Lonely Planet to the Rough Guides, location-specific guidebooks generally seem so transient since a purchase generally depends upon an upcoming trip and soon afterward ends up in a storage box collecting dust or on craigslist for sale. That's not to say they don't have valuable information when you need them, but there is no incentive to return to the book once the trip has ended. The one exception to the rule is the series of Dorling Kindersley's Eyewitness Travel Guides. The London guide is as good as any in the series as it presents a graphically pleasing, intuitively organized guidebook with detailed pictorials that show animated aerial shots of neighborhoods like Covent Garden or cut-away floor plans of heavily visited buildings like Westminster Abbey or the Tate. It also helps make geographic sense of neighborhoods that allow you to navigate easily through them by pointing out recommended sights.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have
We only spent a few days in London but this book helped us to plan which sights we'd have time to see. It also has a great map of the tube which helped us, more than once, find our way around Central London. A Must Have!

5-0 out of 5 stars The travel book you really need!
I have many travel books for London but I have to say this is the best.Updated frequently, it contains a vast amount of information.I found the book to be very acurate with opening times and ticket prices for events, as well as travel directions. If you have never been to London before, you will appreciate the back section of the book which covers the basics (using a payphone, the different coins and notes, airport and train iformation etc). Even though I know London very well now, I still find the book very useful when planning a day out.The photography is amazing as well! This is a must have! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for a European trip
What I like best about the Rough Guides is that they give critical reviews. They will point out the tourist traps and will give negative reviews. I find that Frommer's and Fodor's rarely point out the negatives to a particular... The rough guide is very critical and is a great balance to these other guides.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Buy for the Average Traveler
The Rough Guide To Europe 2006 is a great book to pick up if you're not the most adventurous but more-so the average traveler looking for a great time in some of the best known or little known towns and cities. The guide provides an easy to read and discover map legend that will help you decide what route to choose whether you're using car, train, or other means of transportation to get around. However, I do enjoy the highly detailed country maps of Fodor's Europe more for getting around country to country.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Overviews for the Business Traveler
I travel to Europe a couple times a year for business. I needed a guide book that would help me find the main sites to see in various European countries during my trips. (I rarely go to the same city twice.)

5-0 out of 5 stars almost perfect
Latest version of this brilliant publication. It's perfect for finding that secluded gem of a place to stay or eat (or both!). And you know they check these places every year. Why almost? It doesn't include the cheapest hotels, which are often as good as more highly rated ones. Pay particular attention to 3 features: a) restaurants that have rooms attached, b) those establishments regarded as being particularly good value and c) the maps of towns that help navigation if just passing through.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor service -- very poor follow-up.
As part of a $250.00 order, I ordered the Michelin France Provence map in English, and the Michelin 2006 Red Guide France: Hotels and Restaurants in English - both Items they sent me were written in French, which are of no value to me.I requested a shipping label to return the map and the book and asked they send me the English versions. The Amazon Outsourcing Desk in India refused both request.I requested an American Amazon Customer Service Manager contact me on this Issue. That has never happened.I am also being asked my Satisfaction on a 3d book - Markets Of Provence - which they never sent me.The remainder of my $250.00 order were the English Versions, as ordered. My Overall Satisfaction:Well below the 1 Star shown.Actual Satisfaction "F Minus" for all departments in Amazon and far less for their very poor Customer Service and lack of ethical follow-up for their mistake.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ya Gotta Read French
It takes a ton of determination to master the rating system, symbols, and inset-type maps, but once you do the guide is wonderfully comprehensive and detailed, and it's keyed in to Michelin's excellent, even more detailed road maps. While Michelin gives you an explanation of the rating system, map system, and symbols in English, (as well as in other languages), the text is all in French so it's of limited use to many Americans. We've used it (not exclusively) for our many trips to France and while we occassionally disagree with its ratings (who's to say we're right-although, of course, we are) we've found it's usually right on the mark. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars My gosh, it is NON-Fiction
As a James Michener fan I thought this would be his usual excellent book. It may be good for others, but it wasn't for me. Well duh, it is NON-Fiction. I'm sorry but it didn't have the usual Michener way of grabbing you. This is probably a great book for a studious reader, someone interest in the details of Spain (Iberia). Unless that's you maybe you should skip this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trained Brain Explains Spain without Strain
I've never been to Spain, but after reading Michener's mammoth work on the country, I wish I had gone long ago.I have this sneaking feeling that the place has changed out of all recognition since he published this 795 page tome in 1968.Perhaps it has become more like the rest of Europe or even more like the rest of the world than it was during the latter part of Franco's long rule.Is it still "Spanish", whatever that may mean ?Maybe, but not the same way.I'm sure I've missed that old Spain of Franco's time and maybe (also) that's not such a bad thing. What role bullfighting and flamenco play in contemporary Spain is probably open to question.Does the Catholic church have the same power that it did ?Does it still have power over the schools ?Certainly censorship has disappeared and we see any number of modern films, full of sex, from the once "protected" society.Prices have increased, poverty diminished, the cities have grown and the countryside been drained of people.Spain is now indubitably a land to which immigrants come, not one from which they go.All big changes in the last 40 years. So, you might ask, why should I bother to read an out-of-date book like this ?
5-0 out of 5 stars Best travel writing ever
I've been reading "Iberia" in preparation for a trip to Spain, and in it I've found some of the best travel writing I've ever read--and I've read a few. Michener focuses on several cities in Spain, but most of the time these are mere settings for his fascinating discourses on the history, culture and politics of a country he obviously has long been attached to. DO NOT make the mistake I did of reading just the parts that coincided with our trip--every chapter is fascinating, and now I find I'm going back and reading the parts I skipped the first time.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Travelers Companion
I admit it: I'm addicted to travel. My wife and I are semi-retired and we are on the go half the year. We travel for our home-based business, "The Nurses Choice" which cover 50 metro areas and therefore must visit a variety of cities. We then decided to expand overseas.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed Romanian!
This book in my opinion is biased and takes an angle of Europe that is "clean and proper" and fails to shed light on the rest of it. I can understand that these are "tourist guides" and why would anyone want to tour a country forgotten by time. However, I am a very disappointed Romanian with this book and would never use it as my reference. I have seen travel guides outlining Europe exclude Romania before, but with the precision and detail of DK's series, I was left yet again in disappointment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Europe (Eyewitness Travel Guides)by Dan Colwell
Eyewitness travel guides are splendid and this is not an exception. This is a handy guide to Europe and shows some of the more popular spots to travel to. I was a bit confused that not all countries were included. However, that might be because they picked the places that most people travel to. I personally was a bit disapointed that Romania, Ukraine and other more far eastern european countries were not included. However, still and all, this is an awesome guide for the countries that are included. I love how they show everything instead of just writing and writing like many travel guides do. These are the best guides out there and the many photos make these guides stupendous and astounding and many leagues better then closest competitor. ... Read more
