Informative and useful
Like other Lonely Planet guide books, this one is informative and contains useful information for the traveler. Some historical information, good overview, maps, suggested itineraries, etc.

Do not understand this question, but the book I bought was Lonley Planet's Malta and Gozo
Super....could not have enjoyed my holiday as much without it!

A Thorough and Concise Guidebook
Rough Guides' "Malta & Gozo" is a very handy guidebook. Although it is only 192 pages and pretty light, it is packed with information. The thing that I like most about this book is that it contains detailed maps of all three Islands, Malta, Gozo and Comino, in addition to numerous city maps and plenty of both colour and black and white photos.

This review of the Compact Guide
Malta in Miniature
Probably the best available guide book about Malta, written by natives of the island and others with close connections. as usual with the Insight Guides, it succeeds in giving an authentic flavour of the place in miniature, and I have found it very useful throughout several trips there. Photography is very atmospheric, and almost faultless, though my only gripe is that the latest edition has replaced the Passionist 'cover boy' and his lantern - so typical of religious processions on the Island -with an ordinary, though very attractive, Maltese lass. The boy seemed to sum up perfectly the mixture of youth and devout Catholic faith of Malta. This apart, you will not need another guide to the Island if you have this one. ... Read more

Pocket sized
This pocket sized 400 page guide to Malta & surrounding islands is full of facts, details, and helpful hints.This is a British made publication, which means: 1) you have great detail on after hour clubs, bars, and entertainment; 2), there will be practically no attempt to help you with the local language (which for the most part the natives can understand & speak English, even if they are heavily accented); 3) there will be no hesitation to give opinions along with the facts; 4) there will be good information on bus routes and transportation options. Having lived in Malta for about five months, I can vouch for the quality of this book.It definitely beats all the other guides out there.Read more

Beware of driving
Nicely laminated, fold-out scale of 1:45 000 is easy to read and carry for a good overview of the island, with detail marking the swimming/diving/archeological/great view/beach type sites.Was up to date, and more accurate than a local map we bought on a placement of a key rotary (circle, roundabout).The flip side of the map is detail on Valetta & the Three Cities; Mdina & Rabat; Victoria in Gozo.Read more

Superb Guide To Malta In A Peculiar Format
I have traveled quite a bit and have used travel guides from many different companies, but I have just discovered the Insideout guides and I really like them. They are truly designed for use while in the area you are visiting, though they are also good for planning. The key to understanding these guides is to realize that they are full of features though very compact, and fit easily in a pocket or purse.

Solid but not outstanding
After looking over 5 or 6 Malta books, the two I took with me and used the most were the Rough Guide and the AAA Spiral Guide.This book by Lonely Planet is fine and thorough but comes in second to the other two.However, this book does have the most complete list of feast days (60 or more a year in Malata?).

I spent eight months in Malta, and ended up using this book in tandem with the Rough Guide version.Like all guide books, neither is 100% accurate, and that's life.Rough Guide is better for history, culture, art, etc.There will be much more info on any given sight there, but Lonely Planet has the practicalities a little more fleshed out.And as usual, the maps are slightly better.Depends on what you're looking for, really.
