4-0 out of 5 stars Good book I found it helpful
I found thisbook helpful in deciding just which Inside Passage Cruise to take and which ship to book on.There is a lot of information that can become dated. That is why I got the latest edition.I am booking for early in the cruise season 2007 while reading it in 2006.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide to the wonders of this place!
Excellent general guidebook for cruisers to Alaska, especially
2-0 out of 5 stars Not A Winner

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for the armchair cruiser
I would someday like to cruise around the world, and I bought this book in the hopes of learning more about the possible routes so that I could make some preliminary plans. I'm sure it will come in handy in a few years, but for now, it's overwhelming.5-0 out of 5 stars World Cruising Routes
An absolute necessity for any small yacht going to sea.It is logically compiled and written.Jimmy Cornell has written a book that is exactly what every sailor needs...guidance in getting from port a to port b efficiently, safely, and with the best possible winds and weather.

5-0 out of 5 stars I will make good use of this anchorage guide!!!
The graphic images will surely help our crew find appropriate and safe anchorages in the British Virgin Islands in our upcomming bareboat catamaran cruise.I hope the authors will keep up the good work and produce other works like this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely useful when sailing in the Virgin Islands
We first saw this book in the nav station on a Moorings boat that we chartered in the British Virgin Islands. We looked it over and thought "These pictures are gorgeous. Why do they include it? Maybe they want to sell it to us." The Moorings doesn't sell it and, as of Summer 2004, they are not including new copies on boats because too many people took them home. It is a gorgeous picture book of anchorages in the Virgin Islands. It is not just a pretty picture book though.
5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the price
We just finished a bareboat charter trip to BVI and found that we were frequently referring to this book.It was extremely usefull in locating moorings and anchorages.I would recommend it highly. The only negative is that there were some areas missing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Essential Little Cruise Book, 3rd.
Having never taken a cruise, I found this book very imformative, answered many questions I had.Would recomend this book to any first time cruiser.

2-0 out of 5 stars over-hyped, under-delivered
A waste of money and a big disappointment. There were no "insider" tips offered. A very general overview of cruising. There is far more good information available from internet cruising blogs. Anyone want to buy a slightly used book?

3-0 out of 5 stars Neat little book, especially for first-timers -- But not incredibly informative!
I've never been on a cruise but am going on my first next month!I decided to get this book because of the decent reviews and reasonable price.I must say, it definitely has several tips that I think will be useful:the best cabin is in the center of the ship both horizontally and vertically, bring Dramamine just in case, and don't think because you feel the cool breeze from the ship moving that you're not getting sunburned! It also has some interesting tips on cruise etiquette (like never decline an invitation to sit at the Captain's Table at dinner)...Some of the items are pretty obvious (don't go into a door that says "Crew Only") and seem to be there to just to lengthen the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars PassPorter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line
This book was a personal account of experiencing Disney Cruise Line.I really liked reading the reader's tips from past cruises and plan to use several during the planning and on the actual cruise. This book actually helped change my mind about some of the excursions having heard real comments from others who had taken them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very detailed and complete book
I love this book. It is very detailed and seems to cover every aspect of cruising with Disney. The book has information on the deck plans, fleet history, cruise budgeting, lodging, car rental, checking in, dining, dress, packing list, ports of call, ship activities, debarkation, and much more.
5-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy any other WDW cruise book
My first Disney Cruise Line trip was in December.I bought this book just after I'd reserved my stateroom, and thanks to the info in Passporter, I realised I'd made a mistake in my choice of room and was able to change it in time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for deciding on a cruise line or ship
If you have never cruised, this book is an excellent introduction for what to expect from a cruise, shore excursions, incidentals, travel insurance. Brown and Golden go in depth in comparing the different cruise lines and ships. The information presented is very up to date.
3-0 out of 5 stars Alaska Cruises & Ports of Call 2006
This book has its strengths and weaknesses. If you are very early in the planning stages of an Alaskan Cruise this is a great book to help you select which cruise line and ship you should select. It is the strongest of the books I reviewed in describing the strengths and weaknesses of the various cruise ships. In fact over ? of the book deals with ships not the actual trip. There are shorts sections on the various ports of call. There is not a lot of depth to really get you excited about what you might want to do. Most ports have about four pages that offer walking tours, best cruise line excursions, local operator excursions and shopping. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Enjoyable Book
What an open honest book, that allows us inside the World of Cruising. A great read that will leave You wanting to hear more. Like having a conversation with a Good Friend, hearing of all the good stuff going on in Her life. As I said very open and honest. It will make You smile. I look forward to Her next book. A great insight in the people who work on these cruise Ships.

4-0 out of 5 stars Raises many unanswered questions.
I have just finished this fascinating little book and although I enjoyed it immensely, it still left me with many of my original questions unanswered.I know, I know-it is extremely unthinking of me to fault a writer and their book for not writing the book that the reader would have written but still after a number of cruises there are many areas of the onboard cruising experience that are still pools of unknown knowledge that I cannot provide material to fill.Joyce has covered many interesting topics, some of which had never even occurred to me and I am richer for the wonderful anecdotes that pepper her book. 5-0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting and Unique
This book is an excellent resource for anyone interested on what goes on beyond the signs that say, "Crew Only." Ideal for veteran cruisers like myself who have met many crew members and have wondered what it would be like to work on a ship. A fascinating travelogue of the author's years working as a cruise director aboard various lines, the destinations visited (with color pictures) and people on board (celebrities and run-of-the-mill folk). Also how she met her husband, a Captain for Celebrity Cruises, and several pages written by him about his experiences. The book is full of anecdotes, some of which are rated "R"! All very interesting and unique...I don't know of any other "tell-all" book like it on this subject. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
We are about to embark on a Venice to Barcelona cruise and bought this book sight unseen on Amazon, always a bit of a risk. It's 4 star rating and inexpensive price influenced us. Some of our ports were missing or information was too perfunctory.Korcula in Croatia was barely mentioned and Toulon in France was ignored.Probably unreasonably, we expected too much from one book trying to cover all the Mediterranean.

2-0 out of 5 stars Little for the Money
This book's title is correct; it does cover the entire Mediterrean. However, if you are looking to use this book to make plans it is rather thin.Too little information on each location and not enough detail to really help. Some good maps, but little else

4-0 out of 5 stars helpful in some areas, lacking in others
This book is really good for giving an overview ofeach of the cities we are going to on our cruise and has really helpful information in the front section (especially since I've never been on a cruise) about what to expect, pack, etc.But the one thing it is lacking that would be extremely helpful is helping us decide which cities we should do shore excursions in and what we should really focus on seeing. Most cruiselines offer shore excursions, but we've had a lot of trouble deciding if we should do them or if we would be better off touring on our own.So adding a section like that would be really helpful. Also, it would be nice if maps were drawn to scale and had a scale on them since it's hard to also judge distances. So overall a pretty good book, just wish it had more practical information. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars An even treatment with a fascinating storyline...
Being a vacationer who has been on numerous cruises, this book recommendation looked like a certain fit...Devils On The Deep Blue Sea by Kristoffer A. Garin. He does a very good job in revealing how the cruise industry works, and the forces that have shaped it along the way.
4-0 out of 5 stars Informative and Good Book
This book sheds new light on this part of the leisure industry. The material is well thought out and organized well.It is interesting and riveting. The only time it got boring for me was in the beginning and towards the end of the book.Other than that, I would say it was an excellent piece of investigative journalism. Also has about 10 pages of black and white photos in the center of the book.Definitely opens your eyes to the people behind the faces on the cruises.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cruise-ship Empires
I learned quite a bit about the cruise-ship industry and the people who built it from the ground up. Rich with history and "how to" of the cruise industry and how it became such a big industry over the years. Very enjoyable read. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Too much cruise, not enough ports
The book is a very comprehensive review of all of the cruise lines and individuals ships cruising in the Med.In fact half of the book is devoted to this area. However, I really wanted much more on the ports and excursions, which I felt were not covered in detail at all.The cruise web sites and message boards, including on Frommer.com, are far more in-depth.

1-0 out of 5 stars Its all about ships
I have several cruise books but found this to be the least informative. 90% of the book focuses on the ships and cruise lines themselves. While that may be helpful to some I don't need that much info on the ship and cruise lines. Do any of us care about the ship measurements? I wanted more information on the ports of call and general cruising advice etc.5-0 out of 5 stars Perusing European Cruising
I must say, this is one of the most comprehensive European cruising guidesI have ever seen. Floating your boat, so to speak, is in my opinion, thevery best way to travel. Why? Because you always have a lush entertaining"home" to return to at the end of each exotic port.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Know your stuff
Douglas Ward certainly knows his stuff. The 2006 edition is the best yet with loads of relevant information on the ships not only for cabin size, food etc.Knowledge of what type of cruise will suit you, and who are likely to be your fellow passengers are of great interest especially as ships get bigger. He obviously prefers the smaller more intimate and classy ships rather than the floating Las Vegas type.I concur.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good reference book
This is a good book to have in deciding which cruise or cruise line to take or to review cruises you've done and to plan any new ones.
