5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource for travelers
We used an Eyewitness guide for our trip to London years ago and found it the most helpful of all the guidebooks we had purchsed. The real photos and accurate information made our first trip to Europe go very smoothly. As we plan our second trip, we have not been disappointed by the Amsterdam Eyewitness guide.Again, the striking photographs, maps, and well-organized information makes planning a trip a breeze. Our kids enjoy seeing the places we will visit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best travel guide around
I've used some of the Eyewitness Travel Guides on a trip around Europe, they were so useful that when I came home I've bought some more. They are more than travel guides, they are also a souvenir. I totally recommend them. Great pictures, great 3D street maps with suggested routes, great explanations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Loaded with information
I have used several different travel guides in the past, and the Eyewitness series is one of my favorites. They are colorful and loaded with images, but it's not just eye candy. The images shown are helpful to decide if an attraction interests me enough to actually visit it.

5-0 out of 5 stars More info, easier reading
Although I always buy Lonely Planet guides to every foreign destination, I tried Rough Guide this time.I liked the format, the readability, and the information I was looking for.It is almost 200 pages larger (but because of a quality thin paper is less thick), and has less fine print.I would rate it a bit above the similar Lonely Planet guide to China, and still buy the Lonely Planet. Those two rate way above the competition such as Fodors, Frommers and the like.Of course, the China Eyewitness Travel Guide is in a different class altogether.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nearly Perfect
Using solely this book as our guide, my girlfriend and I navigated Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Yangshuo, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong completely on our own without getting lost once. The maps are absolute life-savers (though they would be even more useful if they included the Chinese characters for the street names), the descriptions of place generally current and accurate (though they might have mentioned that, as of May of 2006, Yangshuo is no longer a mecca of calm and relaxation but rather a maddening gauntlet of pushy vendors and tourists), and it even provided enjoyable reading material on the long train rides.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book, although more $$ recommendations
My husband and I just returned from a 16 day trip, and this book was definitely worth the money!! It is the most up to date Belize guidebook you can buy right now, and almost all of it's information was right on. We also bought the Belize Moon Guidebook, and comparing the two, I would say that Fodors is more upscale. Usually, it's assuming you're going to rent a car and hire guides for your trips (both of which cost $$$), and it does a better job of describing more expensive hotels and restaurants. This is great if you have the money, but we were on a budget, so this info was useless for us. The Moon book did a better job covering places and topics for a budget traveller (like what to do if you get a GI bug--something no one wants, but when it happens, you're glad it's covered in the book!). That said, Fodor's was still really helpful because it's the most up to date, so it's maps, attractions, restaurant, and lodging recommendationscould usually be relied on (Kudos for the Fodor's recommendation for Tradewinds in Plancencia--this tip alone made me glad I bought the book!).Overall, it's the perfect book if you are planning a more upscale trip, but it's still very helpful (4 star) if you're abudget traveller and I would defintely recommend purchasing it along with the Moon Belize book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A great guide with only one flaw.
My buddy and I just got back from our trip to the U.K. We used this book almost exclusively and it was a huge help in planning our time. The only flaw is that there is very little info on the eastern portion of the big Island from lower Scotland to Cambridge.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful!
Unfortunately, the only well-worn portion of my book is the 'London' section, but the rest will eventually get used! This book was such a great help to me in not only finding a moderately priced hotel (prices...yikes!) but in getting to all the places I wanted to see.The color maps of London and the Tube system up front are easily accessible! If I needed a quick look at a map, they were right up front so I didn't have to dig through the book and stand out as a tourist.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for me Lonely Planet USA
so fast shipping and good information to travel USA

5-0 out of 5 stars The best suggestions for the best prices
If you are going to travel to/across USA Lonely Planet USA is a suitable and practical guide, in spite of its size. The suggestions about hotels, restaurants, sightseeing, sports and routes include both traditional touristic places and alternatives points too. The "author's choices" are great and help you a lot to choose the best options for small budgets. It works as a trustful friend telling you about the best things to do in your next travel. More maps showing cities and roads would be very useful in the next editions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Enough for my 7-state road trip
The book definitely proved useful in my first experience with LP guides: if it didn't already have the information, it would at least point you in the right direction as to where to get it. Though the information for big cities like NY, San Fran and Chicago are limited, it's extremely easy to pick up free guides in those cities anyways, so it doesn't matter too much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bundle with Party Europe
This guide rocks. If you really want to have the best time of your life, buy a copy of Party Europe as well. Let's Go tells you where to stay and eat, Party Europe will tell you how to have fun. Great combination. Can't wait to head back to the old country.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too tight of a squeeze for all of Europe
I lived in the UK for a year and did quite a bit of traveling through Europe and will do nothing but rave about the Let's Go series, however the Let's Go Europe is not what I would recommend.
3-0 out of 5 stars Just take what you need
The maps in the book are ok for planning a little but pick up a mapfrom the tourist office when you get in to you next city to actualy find your way around. The book is cheap enough that i didn't care what i did to it so i just cut out the cities i was visiting and brought the pages instead of the book.Good for lightening the load. The info was mostly accurate but some prices were out of date.Especialy transit and shuttle prices in a few places, but never more than a little change.I still think i prefer my lonely planet books. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Pretty but One-sided
This is a very good-looking book and has good information. However, it is only recommended to those who only wish to see picturesque villages, Buckingham Palace and the like. It contains almost no information on anything modern or even slightly off-the-beaten-track and many major sights are completely ignored.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Few Info on KL
This is not a recommended book if you have only some days in KL. Lack of information. Too many detail about points of interest, restaurants and hotels were uncovered.
5-0 out of 5 stars Even has good food picks!
Went to Penang with this last month. Typical quality LP job in describing the country and how to get around. What made this one a cut above is that it actually had useful restaurant recommendations, as opposed to the typical LP approach (i.e.: Here's the address of a place that serves food; hope you don't get hepatitis). Hotel recommendations were spot-on as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Excellent!
This book is the perfect base guide if you are travelling in Europe. If you are doing mostly Western Europe (Italy, France, Spain, Britain, Netherlands, etc.) I would recomment definetly. It is a little more in depth that the regular Let's Go Europe and it still has the main northern and Eastern Europe cities like Budapest, Prague, Helinsky, Copenhaguen, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Frommer's Italy - By Jai Kapadia
Having grown up in Italy for 15 years, I think I understand the place really well, but I still learnt a lot from this book. Great indepth coverage on restaurants, hotels and places to visit. Plus the color maps are very useful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Should have bought it earlier
This is a great book for planning your travel.I wish I'd bought it before I'd booked my leave. The only downside I can think of is the included map. From the product description I thought it would be of all Italy but it's only a map of Rome.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very complete travel guide!
Frommer's Italy 2006 is a very complete and easy to read travel guide. I especially enjoyed the restaurant tips (off the beaten track and very "Italian") and the maps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Typical Frommer's
I usually enjoy the Frommers format and approach to guidebooks and this one is no exception. It is beautifully detailed on the major cities but I found it less so for smaller and rural places. At times, the maps, especially town maps, are not that detailed but that is for me a lesser problem as I always get or buy proper maps from the tourist office / hotel / bookshop. On the other hand, it does have nice diagrams of the major museums. I also love the long lists and detailed descriptions of restaurants as well as the sections on what to do after dark in the major cities. However, I needed another guide once I wandered off the better-known and more rural destinations.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good but no Great
I recently went to Germany for the world cup and found this book somewhat helpful but really the Lets Go Germany gave me much better advice on how to see Germany on a budget.Lets face it we are all on a budget these days.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fine guide but leaves out too many interesting areas
A fine, well-written guide if it covers the places you want to go. I found it leaves out completely too many areas of Germany and focuses only on the well-known tourist areas. These areas are covered very well with comprehensive and easy to use hotel and restaurant listings.

3-0 out of 5 stars Buenos Aires Helper

5-0 out of 5 stars The only guidebook you need (just add a detailed Muni bus route map and you are set for weeks of fun)
I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to guidebooks.I don't believe that there is one-size-fits all guidebook, and when I travel, I get an arsenal of books and select the top three to use on the road.Imagine my surprise when I discovered that I needed no other guidebook to San Francisco! As a general rule, Lonely Planet guides are the most compact and info-packed books on the market, and this guide is unparalleled. It fits neatly in any purse or backpack and the only add-on I would recommend for your trip is a detailed Muni bus route map. 4-0 out of 5 stars Lonely Planet is the way to go!
I travel a lot and a Lonely Planet book of my destination is always in my carry-on. This SF book was very helpful for my sister and I who recently went on a 'girls shopping weekend' up there (from the L.A. area). We did manage to find all the great shops (thanks to the 'Shopping' section) and then have time for some sightseeing on the side. All the directions, maps, addresses, opening times, admission costs, etc. were accurate and precise. The transportation maps are especially helpful in a city like San Francisco where a rental car is not only not necessary but can definitely be a burden (not much parking!). The book also provided interesting facts about historical sites such as Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. I recommend this book to anyone who is traveling to San Francisco whether it be for a weekend or a month or anywhere in between. There is enough stuff in this book to keep you busy, I promise! And it's very easy to use and has a nice Index in the back where everything is possible to find =)

5-0 out of 5 stars grain of salt
I used this guidebook for my first visit to San Francisco and liked where it took me.I just moved here and needed to acclimate. I think it's geared more for younger tourists that are less set in their ways.I wanted to see more than just San Francisco and used the Golden Gate Trailblazer to fill in places to hike around. They were a nice duo to carry around. After two weeks, I'm finally getting the hang of it and less dependent on the maps. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Little Book
Pretty good little book for first time travelers. I bought this book and took it with me when I was in Hong Kong last month. You can just throw in your backpack while in Hong Kong and use it when needed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Bad attitude ruins the book
This book would have gotten 4 or 4.5 stars, if not for the negative attitude that the writers display when writing about Hong Kong's various attractions."Act impressed"? Gee, thanks for that advice. How Lonely Planet. It's a nice book, unfortunately ruined by the tone, which sounds like it was written by a bunch of bored expats who mainly sit around in bars and binge drink. If you want to buy this, then be prepared for the bad vibes this book gives off, and please do not let it ruin a wonderful experience in Hong Kong.

Great book, but not as great as other books from that series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Traveling To Thailand?
I found Eyewitness Travel Guide for Thailand very informative, and easy to read.It had tons of pictures, facts, FYIs, and did I mention pictures?Like Eyewitness I agree that a picture is worth a thousand words.I also bought Lonely Planet's Travel Guide for Thailand, but liked Eyewitness' much better.Lonely Planet's Travel Guide had a more standard layout for the abundant amount of facts, but was limited on the pictures. The phrase at the bottom of Eyewitness' book holds true, "The Guides That Show You What Others Only Tell You."

3-0 out of 5 stars Out Of Date
This is a great book with beautiful pictures, maps and nice glossy color pages. The only problem being that it is out of date! Having said that, I would not recommend it for your guide book if travelling to Thailand. Wait for an updated issue.Read more
