5-0 out of 5 stars Great Sedona Overview
A quick and easy to follow introduction to everything Sedona. The quality of Sedona guidebooks is poor in general. This one stands out. Well worth the money.
4-0 out of 5 stars Sedona Book Review
Fine job, a comprehensive run down of the area highlights. The author did not make it clear that a Golden Eagle National Parks Pass can be used in place of a Red Rocks Pass.I unnecessarily purchased both.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice overview
On our recent trip to Sedona, we referred to the book and found the directions to be good. Not sure that the top recommendations would have been our picks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Required for a trip to Nicaragua
This was an excellent book!!!Went on our first trip to Nicaragua and this book was invaluable!!!It is so well written that we read it cover to cover and is organized in such a manner as to make it very easy to find what you're looking for.Would highly recommend it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Guidebook I've Read
This is easily the most entertaining guidebook I've ever read. I found myself reading entire paragraphs or descriptions out loud to my fiance. The problem with most guidebooks is that they're incredibly boring to read and often leave out the most useful information. This book is the exception! Leonardi tells you exactly what you most need or want to know--such as how quickly you'll want to get out of a particular town you can't avoid passing through, at which hotel you might want to keep your shoes on when walking across the floor at night (yikes), or which local hotel offers the best boat rentals. This book is incredibly useful and a real page-turner--I actually read it almost cover-to-cover.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a very impressive guide which I strongly recommend.
I used this guide during my three weeks in Nicaragua and enjoyed Leonardi's informative writing style. This handbook is more exhaustive, and more up to date, than "Footprint's Central America & Mexico Handbook".Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully presentation, lacks specific recommendations
This makes a good coffee table book for pre and post-travel. The photos and drawings are wonderful. However, the lack of specific reccomendations for restaurants, tips on how and when to see things, and local customs is obvious If you have to carry just one book with you, this one wouldn't be the one. If you want to impress your friends with what you'll see or have seen, by all means buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best, Best, Best!
Time and again my family has used this book.It has pictures and commentary which prove extremely helpful. We've written all over it.It is the best of the guides. It has the most detail.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book!!!
We try to visit DC every couple of years, and next time we were thinking of paying for one of those guided city tours. We don't need the sites pointed out to us, but those tour guides always seem to have good information and anecdotes about the sites that you don't hear anywhere else. I thought that maybe we could save a couple hundred dollars if we could find a book that has that type of information.I bought the Unofficial Guide to Washington, D.C., and I also checked out the Frommer's Guide. They were very informative, but they didn't get me excited about any of the sites. They were pretty much just reference books (with very limited photos). However, when I opened up the Eyewitness Travel book, I was blown away. The color photos and color floor plans/cutaways of the buildings are outstanding. It really got me interested in places that I wouldn't have thought twice about if I had read just a text description.
2-0 out of 5 stars Informative, but very PC
I am planning a trip to Washington, DC, in September 2006.In order to prepare for my trip and gain insight on the many attractions in the nation's capital, I purchased the "Eyewitness Travel: Washington, DC" guide from Amazon.com in the month prior to my trip.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Top Guides To London
There are many guides to London. From what I can see there are two good general guidebooks. These are the Eyewitness Travel (DK) guide which is the one that I personally prefer or Lonely Planet (the present book). These two books are both just around 500 pages and both are tremendous efforts. They are well balanced guides with lots of photos, maps, history, etc. Both are clearly 5 star guides.
3-0 out of 5 stars Average London travel guide
It seems like the Lonely Planet guides are really hit and miss. Some are outstanding, but others are quite lacking. Unfortunately the London guide is not very impressive. For starters, the entire book is poorly organized and confusing. London is an enormous city, with several distinct areas, but this book does a very poor job of helping the reader understand where things are. There is almost no cross referencing to help the reader find things that are described in it. I was also disappointed with the maps, which have decent detail in some parts, but no detail whatsoever in many other parts. Finally, this book lacks the detail that I was able to find in some other guides. Overall, I was quite disappointed with this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect London tour guide, for the budget traveller or the crazy spender.
Lonely Planet always publishes up-to-date issues of your city of choice. They cover the board and general to the minute and often times over looked hidden treasures. The 2006 London edition follows exactly with that tradition. I went to London for 4 days and there wasn't a day that passed that I didn't have something to do or experience (aside from the typical major tourist attractions). LP provides ideas for walking tours, mesuem tours, bus tours, shopping tours, and even rainy day tours. What I appreciate the most about LP are the maps and train routes that are provided in the back. London can be a tough place to navigate on foot, since a lot of roads just suddenly end or turn into something else, so a good map is key to keeping your sanity. The only limitation that I found with this book was its excerpts on other cities outside the city limits. It only offered a few agendas for day trips outside of the city. But then again, I guess if I really wanted to leave London and go somewhere else, I'd just have to buy that city's LP guide. Also, if you are looking for a hotel, London is SO incredibly large, there is no way that the LP can list each one, so do your homework online, becuase there might be better deals that aren't listed in the book. Overall, this book is an imformative read and a great travel companion. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Travel Advice
This was the most helpful book I've ever used while traveling. Not only does he touch on the highlighted cities, but his advice on B&B's was spot on!Little details like how to read street signs and what you are seeing out your window when you're driving was an unexpected bonus.I recommend this book for the Ireland traveler, and I plan to purchase Rick Steves England guide for my next trip.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great places and finds
We used the 2006 book to find our way around Phoenix, and it was very helpful. I didn't use the maps (pretty good one from Hertz), but the listing of things to do, places to eat, and shopping really helped. Their "finds" came through like a charm with the Blue Adobe Grill in Mesa- a must try!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great guide to AZ
Being a winter visitor in AZ for over 5 years now, we have found the 2001 Frommer's to be a great guide for celebrations, day trips, and travelling in general.Explanations are great for each landmark, with phone #'s to make reservations and check open times. I always do that because businesses do change their hours seasonally, and from year to year.I an ordering a 2006 Frommer's AZ soon.pmd ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Truth in Labeling
This pocket size guide really does make a trip tp Paris easy. The details by Arrondissement(district/neighborhoods)are very useful. The restaurant/Bistro tips were uniformly solid. The walks were easy to navigate and enriched strolling through Paris. The most useful guide to Paris I have seen.
5-0 out of 5 stars THE guide to pack
I picked up Paris Made Easy just before a return trip to the City of Light, and I wish I'd had it the first time around! The title says it all: the content of this book, the way it's organized, and even its size made it the one guide I used day in and day out.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best sights and walks of Paris!
I am the author of Paris Made Easy. This handy pocket guide to the best sights and walks of Paris is all you need to make your visit fun, memorable, and easy. Inside, you'll find short opinionated descriptions of both well-known and off-the-beaten-path sights; detailed walking tours with street-by-street directions, nearby day trips - even a travel-planning section to help arrange your trip to the most fabulous city in the world!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Paris Guide but With Limitations
The Michelin Green Guide to Paris is the best, the finest guide to the sights. No other guide that I have found is so complete with the history of the sights down to the smallest of detail.Once you've done the Louvre (covered completely here) and all the other primary & secondary sights in Paris, the Miche will tell you about the the police museum, the erotica museum, the hunting museum, etc.
3-0 out of 5 stars Thorough but dull
I took three guidebooks to Paris, and the apartment where I stayed had a library containing several others left behind by previous guests. This guide is the one I used the least. It is also the one most-often left behind. OK, so everyone raves about the Michelin guides, BUT I got more mileage out of an excellent street map (The Paris Mapguide) and Rick Steves' Paris 2006 which I found was easier to use (excellent index), more interesting to read, and the commentary helpful in making decisions.Yes, my Michelin stayed in Paris, as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best guidebook to Paris
Last summer I went to Paris and used the Michelin Green Guide. It was excellent. Everything was well-researched and well presented. Background information was solid. My only complaint is that it just focuses on Paris. Day trips outside the city are briefly overviewed. Farther attractions, such as the Loire Valley, are not even mentioned. Overall, I would highly recommend this guidebook! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Vastly overrated
I recenty returned from a month long trip through Central America, during which I visited all 7 Central American countries, in this order: Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.I brought two guidebooks with me on my trip: this one and the Rough Guide to Central America.I soon found myself using the Rough Guide almost exclusively and this Lonely Planet Guide hardly at all. This was a surprise and a disappointment, because for the last 17 years I have consistently found the Lonely Planet guides to be the ones most consistently most useful for adventurous travelers. But not this one. Here are some of the problems I had with this guide:
1-0 out of 5 stars Maps are useless - as are much of the comments
This has rotten country maps - then try to find the "Highlights" to the countries - like Tikal in Guat. is a highlight - but try and find it on these terrible country maps - that have no ABC-123 coordinates - you spend hours scanning miserable maps trying to figure out where the "Highlights" are - and highlighting them yourself - and yes - they're in the same small font as the rest of the map. And if you're gonna rent a cheap car and drive yourself - there's nothing. Acres of bus crap - no road info.

4-0 out of 5 stars You can't do better
You can't really do better than this book if you're traveling in multiple countries in C.A.Overall, it was an invaluable resource. My complaints are that it almost provides TOO much detail, the kind of things people should find out on their own while they travel. Also, so many people use this book that you'll run into gringos every time you follow their 1st recommendation. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Planning Book
This book showed me a great view of what to do and see in London. I have been slowly planning my trip for awhile and this book is the cornerstone to that planning. The only thing I wish though was that they showed more pictures of the things in the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good solid travel guide
Frommer's does a solid travel guide, and I will definitely purchase these again.I especially like that they come out with new books every year that are always up-to-date.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5th edition
I purchased a copy of the fifth edition sometime last year and keep it on the dash of my vehicle - to have handy while traveling. 2-0 out of 5 stars amazing hikes, erroneous details
This book is a perfect introduction to the wealth of hiking possibilities in patagonia - many of them are still significantly under-used and of equal calibre to the more famous routes. The general information sections are quite good, and give a good feel for what conditions are like both trekking and travelling in general; a good purchase for planning your trip. Where the book falls down is on the actual trekking notes, which are consistently inaccurate, obscenely outdated and sometimes quite misleading (see other reviews). On this front, Cerro Electrico is not safe - however Cerro Electrico Oeste is safely climbable without mountaineering equipment (although crampons are a nice idea) and gives mind-blowing views of the rear of Fitzroy - I think this might be what the author actually had in mind.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Unparallelled Resource
Like all Lonely Planet guides, Trekking in Patagonia is very much geared to independent trekkers. Considering how huge Patagonia is, the book covers it pretty thoroughly with a wide range of suggestions, from easy short walks right up to a few week-long ones. The text is strong on practical information like local transportation and accommodation and supplies wide coverage to flora and fauna, which is a real bonus. 5-0 out of 5 stars Well-done work
I am using the latest (thid ed.) on my second trip to South America. It an indispensable resource with very accurate text and maps which are quite accurate to use even if you you don't have a topo (yeah I know, but maps are not always easy to buy here). The routes carefuly prepared...this new edition has a whole lot of new trails. I'm also finding it up to date. One thing is maybe that the authors could have given better coverage to some areas such as the Pumalin. But this is more than enough material to spend a couple of summers down here anyhow, even if you just go for it! I definitely feel anyone that wants to trek in this region will be sorry if you don't have this book. Enjoy! Feel free to contact me privately for any info.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for trip planning
At 800+ pages, this is too heavy to lug around, but it's perfect for planning a trip and deciding where to visit. After you've planned your itinerary, I suggest buying a more specialized LP (Lonely Planet) guide to take with you - a small price to pay for a successful vacation.
