not accurate in the restaurant category
It seemed to happen all too frequently - restaurants listed were no longer in business or had moved to a different location. In one evening, four of the five restaurants I tried were closed, and in some cases, had beenclosed quite a while.Read more

Out of date
While Access guides are usually wonderful sources of information for travelers, I was sorely disappointed with this guide when I bought it (and with myself) because I hadn't noted that it hadn't been updated since 1996.1996!So much of the information in the book is out of date!Not only must you ignore all restaurant information, even museums have moved locations in the intervening six years.Richard Saul Wurman, please update Access San Diego or stop printing it!

Excellent Guide for the inquisitive traveller
ACCESS guides are excellent for the traveller who wants to know exactly what they are getting into. The guide practically walks you down the street and lets you look into each store, restaurant, lodging, or sight.The guide is color-coded to identify restaurants, shops, hotels, sights. Additionally, probably as space fillers, there are numerous tidbits orfacts or famous authors' bests of the city.Probably a weakness of ACCESSis its maps.An excellent starting point for researching your nextvacation.

Forget it / time warp
Do not buy this book. It is incredibly out of date. It also spends too much ink on the tourist traps that are already well known (e.g., 20 pages on Harvard Square, which is increasingly full of chain stores), and gives short shrift to the neighborhoods that are truly up and coming (e.g., one column on Central Square...which is also increasingly full of chain stores :-(). A big disappointment, since I liked one of the earlier editions so much. I'm not sure what they updated for this edition; they highly recommended a bakery that's been shut down for over six years! Las Vegas Access
The Access series are very good and the Las Vegas book is a favorite of mine.When ever I go for business or pleasure, I take the current Access along.I have found that with the multitude of changes the earlier editions help to remind me of Casinos and attractions that are no more.As Vegas continues to develope at an extraordinary pace, I find I look forward to the new release more and more.

Definitely a useful guide book
We used Access London on our Honeymoon in 2000, and it was invaluable.It helped us find everything we wanted to visit, especially since we studied it beforehand, and marked all the places that were interesting.The maps seemed fine, and we liked the way we could look at the numbered list and find the items on the maps.The color coding was very helpful, and we always had our copy with us wherever we went.
Cannot get by using this guide only
A friend gave me this guide book as a birthday gift for my trip to London. Having always travelled with Lonely Planet guide books, I hesitated before finally deciding not to buy the Lonely Planet guide as a complement to this one (I also already had a Knopff map guide)... Big mistake! First of all, this guide book does not have a tube map!!! Second, the maps of the different boroughs are not very good. Also, the information is all thrown together so you have restaurants and hotels amidst tourist attractions. Even thought the titles are color coded, this is not very practical, making it harder to find the information you need.
BEST GUIDE EVER
I work in a book store,so, believe me, I have had plenty of time to look at travel books and I have to say that these access guides are the best.There are a couple of reasons why. First off, the pages are thicker paper so they wont tear as easily if you are carrying it aound every day and thumbing thru it constantly like i was!! They also color code the listings..green for parks, blue for hotels, you get the idea. As another person said before, its all by area so you can always se whats up where you are..very nice. Pricey but mostly handy
Fairly decent guide book, but somewhat overpriced for a paperback. The inclusion of logos from some establishments makes me wonder if their reviews have been skewed by a monetary inducement to the author...
