Great Techie book for Berkeley DB
Mr. Brian's new book on Berkely DB is a great resource for the beginner and expert alike.The book reads well with lots of examples and draws upon his real-world experience for this topic.

Excellent Resource for anyone interested in using XML to store data
Danny Brian writes in a very straight forward and very easy to understand method.The book works well as a training tool and has a resource for anything you could ever want to know on XQuery and Berkeley DB. Finally someone compiled the information on XQuery and put it in one easy to use resource as an appendix (Book is worth it just for this!).Book also has a great appendix for people just starting out in XML or even if you just need to brush up on your XML syntax. I want a CUB!
I loved the concept of talking planes. I would be scared to think what the planes I've flown in have said to other planes about me! This is a WONDERFUL book about the Old School way of flying that Cub Owners can Still DO! I'm jealous! But reading the book is the next best thing. VERY visual images are brought up. Only purchase for reference.
Seasoned UNIX users will have no use for this book at all. There is a brief (and i mean BRIEF) introduction to Socket programming at the end of the book, and a modest introduction to csh programming as well. concise but comprehensive guide
a really good book! in less than 300 pages. it covers almost all you need to know about UNIX.shell programming,vi, emacs,c programming(make, ctrace,debug),sed, awk...... IMO, what make it UNIQUE, it is the third section on the UNIX system programming. a brief even but with full exampleson ALL the system calls, File I/O, Signal, Process,IPC, Pipe.....evensocket programming.Read more

The best travel guide to Europe I have seen!
When I went looking for a guide book for my European vacation I had so many choices I didn't know where to begin. So, I looked at the authors. Did I want some stuffy Ivy Leage brats telling me how to have fun? Or fun loving hippies from Berkeley. :,) The Berkeley guides have the most accurate information I have seen, laid out in a form that makes sense. They have the inside scoop on all the local haunts and pubs. I showed my guide to several friends I made there, and all of them were impressed by the little, out of the way places that were listed. Some they didn't know about. Alas, I lost my guide in Berlin and had to find my own way home. My only criticism: the lack of population sizes for cities. Knowing a cities' population gives is the best indication as to what you will find. ... Read more

Excellent!
Full of all sorts of practical ideas that you can use at home.Though it is written by 2 top doctors, it is easy to read and use.I have managed to treat myself and my family with all of the fantastic information, and since it is from the School of Public Health, you know these people are not out to sell your stuff or glorify themselves the way some doctors on ego-trips do.An essential reference book that everyone should own.

Excellent reference guide
If you need a clear, well-organized, and up-to-date guide to your health , this is the perfect book for you. Almost all the general medical knowledge a person needs is covered here.On one page, for example, you learn how to evaluate your blood pressure.On another, you get a quick lesson on glaucoma - its symptoms, its causes, and how to deal with it. Should you have to consult a doctor, you will have instant access to some crucial information. Do yourself a favor and put this handbook in your reference collection.

Great book -- Too bad it's out of print
Brutally honest, but not so cynical that it's annoying.

This is a query as to what happened to the On the Loose Series. Did the big boys (Fodors, Frommers, Let's Go swallow them up?) Any information about the demise of these student writers would be appreciated.
