Required for a trip to Nicaragua
This was an excellent book!!!Went on our first trip to Nicaragua and this book was invaluable!!!It is so well written that we read it cover to cover and is organized in such a manner as to make it very easy to find what you're looking for.Would highly recommend it!!!

Best Guidebook I've Read
This is easily the most entertaining guidebook I've ever read. I found myself reading entire paragraphs or descriptions out loud to my fiance. The problem with most guidebooks is that they're incredibly boring to read and often leave out the most useful information. This book is the exception! Leonardi tells you exactly what you most need or want to know--such as how quickly you'll want to get out of a particular town you can't avoid passing through, at which hotel you might want to keep your shoes on when walking across the floor at night (yikes), or which local hotel offers the best boat rentals. This book is incredibly useful and a real page-turner--I actually read it almost cover-to-cover.

This is a very impressive guide which I strongly recommend.
I used this guide during my three weeks in Nicaragua and enjoyed Leonardi's informative writing style.This handbook is more exhaustive, and more up to date, than "Footprint's Central America & Mexico Handbook".Read more

Great guide to the best diving destinations
This is an excellent guide for choosing a dive destination.My wife and I have had the good fortune to travel to a number of excellent dive locations in the past several years and this guide gets it right.Be forewarned, it makes no effort to be a comprehensive guide to the entire world (for that, try Dive by Monty Halls).But it does cover the most intriguing dive locations, so it is heavy on Asia and the South Pacific and light on the Caribbean and has no coverage of temperate destinations, such as California or British Columbia.
Diving the world
My wife Sue & I have been very lucky to dive some of the best diving locations in the world, all of which are featured in this excellent and very readable book. First of all the descriptions are spot on and you can tell that the text is taken from the experience of actually doing the dive or visiting the area, not just researching it (unlike so many guides). The book is not just a travel or dive guide, it's more like a wish list to the best diving in the world. If you are lucky enough to be able to do this sort of diving then I think owning this book is about as important as owning a mask. ... Read more

Best Guide for those needing info onmany So. Am. countries
I have only been in five of the fourteen countries covered in this handbook, but of those I have travel through, I found this all-in-one guide to be succinct, reliable and valuable. That said, it does not replace the comprehensiveness of a specific country guide. Basically, this handbook is a digested compilation of the specific country handbooks that Footprint produces. Thus, if you are only visiting one or two countries, buy those handbooks. If you are going to explore South America and want only one guide, this guide will be valuable.Read more

...wet suit, wax, board, footprint guide...
Just the quite simply the best guide around. Detailed information on all the best accomodation. Great knowledgable detail on the local breaks and conditions. Fab little extras, like stuff to do if there's no surf, such an awesome and really useful touch.
This book is very good
Perhaps the best book of it's kind. It's better than the Stormrider's Guide to Europe because of it's attention to details and a huge wealth of useful information aside from just surfing -- airlines, car rentals. detailed maps and other travel info. Also, the book is very well laid out with fantastic iconography. The only thing I wished it had was a chart for the wave heights of each region based on the months. I'm surprised this book does not have a wave height chart, because it has a chart for everything else. Overall, I highly recommend this book.

European Surf Bible
This book is awesome! It not only has more breaks than the Stormrider, it also has all the best places to stay, eat and drink. It has advice from top surfers, excellent maps so you can actually find the breaks, and what weather charts to look out for! I picked this book up in London and spent the summer travelling round Europe. I scored some amazing waves and this book saved me a fortune in gas driving to the right spots at the right time.

Very complete but not a typical travel guide
This book totally fulfilled what I was expecting, meaning an infinity of detailed technical information about nearly all places of interest in the whole continent. Hence, if you are looking for a very complete list of hotels, restaurants, museums, travel agencies etc. this is the perfect book. However, this book can't possibly, and is not meant to provide any but the very basic background information about history, language, culture, politics etc. As long as you don't expect something like a classical travel guide and rather view this as a "manual" buy it but consider to complement it with additional background information where needed.

Rather good, not close to perfect
There is a lot of information in the guide book and it is up to date. There is information on major cities and smaller, less travelled places. There are a lot of hotel recommendations, more than in any other guide book.
Still the best on South America
Still the most experienced, complete, objective, relevant, orderly, up-to-date guide book on South America, with the clearest maps since 2005. Fine paper makes it compact too.

If you are a outdoor buff you need this guide.
There was a day when `Rough Guide' and `Lonely Planet' were the best South America guides available for travelers that go "off the beaten path." But slowly, year by year, `Footprint's coverage of South America has improved, and now this Footprint Bolivia is one of the best guides out today.

The Perfect Travel Companion

The most comprehensive and updated of all Tibet guidebooks
This book provides a more profound insight into Tibet for those interested inTibetan culture, trekking and adventure travel, than the others that are on the market. It is the most comprehensive guide- uniquely including the vast eastern regions of Kham, Amdo and Gyarong, as well as Ngari and Utsang. The book avoids the traditional steriotypes of Tibet and includes much information directly translated from original Tibetan sources as well as data derived from more than 50 fieldwork expeditions and trips in Tibet. The author, Dr Gyurme Dorje,is a Tibetologist, who has been involved in Tibetan studies for over 30 years, and has authored several books on diverse aspects of Tibetan culture. His handbook has the advantage of being continuously updated.

Small packages
This book is a great reference of iceland. It not only talks about the trekking outside of the city and gives sources to look more closely into that, but the account of Reykjavik is exceptional. I found that this was the book I read the most while I was actually in Iceland. I brought it with me and used it the entire time I was there, and I plan to bring it with me again when i go back.
This is the one you need.
I looked at this and the Rough Guide to Iceland, and if you're making a visit to Reykjav�k this is the only guide you need.The style is chatty and down to earth, with masses of useful information for the visitor--especially good sections on eating in the city, and on galleries, music venues, and museums.Some of the small details (like descriptions of menus) could be updated, as could info on public internet access (v.cheap at the City Library), info on phoning abroad, and contact info for Hotel Loftlei�er.Dixon's grasp of Reykjavik life, though, is excellent--insightful, hip, yet generous and inviting.A great guide.

Maximum Fun in Reykjavik!
This is a great little book, and really tells you what you need to know before a stay in Reykjavik. It is a small book, and fits into most any pocket. It is divided into useful sections like 'Sleeping' (hotels, guesthouses, etc.), 'Festivals and Events' (from Independence Day to the Icelandic Jazz Festival), and many other handy sections.Read more

Excellent details, a little thin on 'world' coverage
This is a very good overview of some of the world's best, and best-known waves, as of 2006. There are around 80 waves described in fairly good detail, each wave covering 2 pages of notes and pictures. It includes monthly swell and wind data, tides, wave lengths and sizes, surfable days/month, board recommendations (but no surfer weights), access, hazards, general travel issues, surf stories and histories, cultural backgrounds, nearby spots, good photos, surfers top10s, and various environmental issues.

Footprint Tunisia Handbook-Fantastic Book
You can't imagine how much detail and information there is in this book. It must have taken this gentleman several lifetimes to actually visit all of the places about which he so accurately describes. This is far better than the Lonely Planet book on Tunisia in my opinion, especially for people who hope to travel to this progressive nation that is very "American friendly" and quite a bargain in most ways.

Footprint Tunisia
Footprint Tunisia is without question the best travel book I've ever used.It's information was accurate to the letter in every case.Background history of the country and it's ancient colonizers was exhaustive comparedto the standards of most guide books.Perhaps most impressive is thepertinence of the information to every type of traveller, budget to luxe. The clever and pointed opinions were always on target.The writer did nothesitate to give sly negative reviews where applicable. "LonelyPlanet" and "Let's Go" both offer good information but havetarget readers and leave out the needs of many of us as well as frequentlyproviding only rudimentary information. With Footprint you can throwout all the other guidebooks or just avoid buying them entirely, that's howexhaustive I found the Tunisia entries to be.I've used many guidebooks, Eyewitness, Access (awesome in the original versions, especially forwalking tours and architectural sites,food and shops)and Fodor's but theseall pale in comparison to Footprint. Where have they been hiding?I'veyet to see them on the shelves of those big bookstores in my neighborhood.Bravo to Amazon for carrying them all. ... Read more
