almost perfect
Latest version of this brilliant publication. It's perfect for finding that secluded gem of a place to stay or eat (or both!). And you know they check these places every year. Why almost? It doesn't include the cheapest hotels, which are often as good as more highly rated ones. Pay particular attention to 3 features: a) restaurants that have rooms attached, b) those establishments regarded as being particularly good value and c) the maps of towns that help navigation if just passing through.

Poor service -- very poor follow-up.
As part of a $250.00 order, I ordered the Michelin France Provence map in English, and the Michelin 2006 Red Guide France: Hotels and Restaurants in English - both Items they sent me were written in French, which are of no value to me.I requested a shipping label to return the map and the book and asked they send me the English versions. The Amazon Outsourcing Desk in India refused both request.I requested an American Amazon Customer Service Manager contact me on this Issue.That has never happened.I am also being asked my Satisfaction on a 3d book - Markets Of Provence - which they never sent me.The remainder of my $250.00 order were the English Versions, as ordered.My Overall Satisfaction:Well below the 1 Star shown.Actual Satisfaction "F Minus" for all departments in Amazon and far less for their very poor Customer Service and lack of ethical follow-up for their mistake.

Ya Gotta Read French
It takes a ton of determination to master the rating system, symbols, and inset-type maps, but once you do the guide is wonderfully comprehensive and detailed, and it's keyed in to Michelin's excellent, even more detailed road maps. While Michelin gives you an explanation of the rating system, map system, and symbols in English, (as well as in other languages), the text is all in French so it's of limited use to many Americans. We've used it (not exclusively) for our many trips to France and while we occassionally disagree with its ratings (who's to say we're right-although, of course, we are) we've found it's usually right on the mark. ... The Best Paris Guide but With Limitations
The Michelin Green Guide to Paris is the best, the finest guide to the sights.No other guide that I have found is so complete with the history of the sights down to the smallest of detail.Once you've done the Louvre (covered completely here) and all the other primary & secondary sights in Paris, the Miche will tell you about the the police museum, the erotica museum, the hunting museum, etc.
Thorough but dull
I took three guidebooks to Paris, and the apartment where I stayed had a library containing several others left behind by previous guests.This guide is the one I used the least.It is also the one most-often left behind. OK, so everyone raves about the Michelin guides, BUT I got more mileage out of an excellent street map (The Paris Mapguide) and Rick Steves' Paris 2006 which I found was easier to use (excellent index), more interesting to read, and the commentary helpful in making decisions.Yes, my Michelin stayed in Paris, as well.

Best guidebook to Paris
Last summer I went to Paris and used the Michelin Green Guide. It was excellent. Everything was well-researched and well presented. Background information was solid. My only complaint is that it just focuses on Paris. Day trips outside the city are briefly overviewed. Farther attractions, such as the Loire Valley, are not even mentioned. A Good Tool, But Not The Only One
We used this atlas for a 2 week road trip through Spain, and found it to be very helpful. I had also mapped routes using various internet sources, and having this atlas was better as we could change our minds and pick other routes, if we felt we wanted to. Sometimes the numbers of the highways didn't match exactly, but that can happen at anytime, anywhere. Maps and atlases are frequently outdated as soon as they are printed. But this one gives the best information available here in the States, I think.

Very good atlas, even found my friend's village high above the Ebro.

The One and Only
What can you say about a Red Michelin Guide? It is the bible of hotel and restaurant ratings! Concise and opinionated, which is why you get it. Once you learn the symbols used, there is a lot of good information to be gained from it other than the hotel and restaurant ratings. The Michelin people keep improving the format and this one on Paris is the latest I have purchased. In comparing it with an older issue, I see places added and where some have been dropped and others where the rating has changed. That is what the bookis all about. A must have if you are visiting the pertinent country or city.

Under product details, it gives the language, French in this case.It should be mentioned in amazon's review, but is always worthwhile checking that books published in France for basically the French, might well be, in French.

dumbed down & wasted space. maybe they will learn for the next edition
for those who have seen the information packed Michelin red guides for Europe, this NYC Michelin guide is a dumbed down picture book that simply reviews the most commonly known places and adds nothing new to the scene. If you have a Zagat guide, why ever would you want this book?Aside from the different rankings that some restaurants receive (which you could summarize in a 20 entry list) in comparison with other guides, there is nothing particularly worthwhile about the book.
Michelin Red Guide 2006 New York City: Hotels & Restaurants
Clearly one of the best available guides for NYC. I prefer it to Zagat because it has Star restaurant's recepies. Also, as opposed to Zagat, the restaurants are listed by area, which also helps alot.

better than the others, but not at par with the Red Guide for Italy or London
The Michelin Red Guide to New York sticks with their usual European format in some respects and deviates from that format in others. The deviations are not good.

best NYC guide
makes NYC manageable for the tourist.
NYC tour guides study it.. it must be good!
I was on one of those tv show/ movie tours in NYC recently and the tour guide had the most interesting stories to tell about the city. After the tour was over, I asked her to please tell me where she got all of her information.She explained to me that the NYC government requires that tour guides pass a test to get a tour guide license. In order to pass that test, they recommend that you study the Michelin NYC Green Guide. I wanted to make sure, so I called the licensing division and asked them what I needed to do to prepare for the exam - sure enough, they said to get the Michelin Green Guide NYC!! This travel guide has to be good!

Too big
The map was quite legible, and seemed accurate.But it was very unwieldy, due to its large size.Trying to unfold and fold it in a small car just didn't work.

great trip planner
I constantly get asked about good maps to plan out trips through Scotland.Michelin really gives you a good one.Large so 'baby boomer' eyes can see all the details.It's clearly marked so it's very easy to use, with a trip times chart.I especially liked they have the outer isle marked well.Some maps of Scotland will skimp on these.So if you are going to Lewis or Skye then this one is hand.

MUST HAVE ATLAS - ITALY
My daughter married a gondolier from Venice.I've been waiting 10 years for a decent set of maps of Italy.THIS IS THE BEST.
Invaluable if you plan to drive any distance in Italy
You don't realize how spoiled we are in America with good maps until you try to buy maps for other countries.This is the best roadmap that I have found for Italy.We experienced a few problems, but nothing major.

Well researched and organized, compact size that travels well
I have used the Michelin Green Guides on many trips to Italy.They have always provided accurate information in an easy to use format.I particularly like that they are small enough to pack in a suit easily.This might not sound like much to you.But I am a one carry-on suitcase kind of girl, so I don't have much room to spare for lots of travel guides.I always have at least one Michelin Green Guide in my suitcase for each new adventure.

I have just ordered Italia 2006.It must be the 10th edition of this wonderful travel guide that I have bought.I wouldn't leave home without it.
Are the redMichelin guides getting outdated?
I used to really like the red Michelin guides for places to stay in Europe: to find the best lodging in my price range, preferablyout of the way places you just can't find by driving around: like the places indicated with a rocking chair, or the sign for great view , or the bib sign.

Essential for navigating France by car
I just returned from a month of car travel in France and Italy.I took Michelin's fold-out country maps, which turned out to be far too small for car navigation.Luckily, I was able to borrow this atlas from a friend while I was in France, and it saved the trip.Detail is sufficient for most driving situations, and France's excellent road system and generally helpful signage did the rest.I wish I'd had something like this in Italy, where I just about had a stroke trying to navigate by their sign "system" while dodging Vespe and trying to keep the semis off my tail.This map is essential.Do NOT buy any of the other large-scale Europe maps: they are FULL of errors, often many on a single route [exits shown on the wrong side of cities, incorrect route numbers, incorrect route designations, etc].Michelin is the way to go in Europe.

A valuable resource!!
I disagree with the reviewer from Switzerland. What I love about the France guide is that Michelin allows travelers to France the freedom to hone up on everything they need to know about major sights and attractions as well as the little hidden corners of the country that real francophiles might enjoy. These are the places where you don't run in to everyone else on vacation with the same guidebook. You can break away from the crowds and still have enough information to make new discoveries. As go the hotel and restaurants, there is a nice red book called the Michelin Guide France that accompanies the Green Guide. Anyone going to France should most certainly have a copy of it - use this and eat in authentic restaurants the way only savvy locals do. Michelin provides you enough info to make your own discoveries without any surprises.

Surprisingly Bad
You'd think Michelin, a French company, would write an excellent guide to its home country. You'd be wrong, unless you consider information about accomodation and places to eat to be superfluous, which this guide does.

Accurate, but too small for navigation.
One of the reasons we love Italy so much is that the land is so intimately settled: tiny complex towns hug the terrain, cities are assembled of ten thousand tiny jigsaw pieces, and roads meander according to long-forgotten whims.The only perfect map is coterminous with the land, but whereas a useful map of the American midwest can be very small indeed, a useful map of gem-like Italy really needs to be very, very big.Many of the features that make Italy so appealing are too small to show up on most maps.Unfortuantely for me, I depended on this map to navigate the country lanes of Tuscany last week, and it failed totally.It is far too small.It's even too small for finding Autostrada exits with any certainty.It's almost useless, actually, except for the longest trips between big cities.I highly recommend the Michelin spiral-bound book map for navigating in Italy.Its format is more convenient for car travel, it is just as accurate and legible, and it has the level of detail you'll need to avoid spending your whole trip lost and frustrated.I also recommend supplemental detailed city maps.Better yet, don't drive in Italy at all.It's insane.Especially plan to walk or take cabs in towns and cities.Cazzo!

Nicely laid out map, however I did not realize it would be in Italian, so that made it a little trickier to read. I also was hoping for detailed maps of the cities, but the back was blank.
