5-0 out of 5 stars Make the Most of Your Trip
I prefer guidebooks that aren't just mammoth listings of everything (hotels, restaurants, sights). This compact book hits the target with its highlights and its walking tours.
5-0 out of 5 stars Surprising gem of a guide book
This guide book was a last-minute impulse buy before we headed off on our 10 day trip to France. We surprised ourselves by using it almost exclusively to navigate around this wonderful region of France.Short 'n sweet descriptions of all noteworthy towns in the region helped tremendously with deciding where to head next.We used the walking tours in Aix-En-Provence, Avignon, and Arles, and felt them invaluble in getting the most out of our time in each city on our brief trip.We also visited many of the tiny scenic villages recommended in the book."Provence Made Easy" is accurate, well-written, concise, and fun to read.(Fits in your pocket!)We also had Lonely Planet Provence with us and ended up using it almost exclusively (and seldom) for accommodation and restaurant information. For trip shaping, this small, handy book was it.We used this book in conjunction with "Walking In Provence" by Janette Norton and felt that together these two books offered us a unique, authentic view of the region. We wished we had Andy's book "Paris Made Easy" when we arrived there for the last two days of our trip! Thanks, Andy!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Sights and Walks of Provence and the French Riviera
This handy pocket guide to the best sights and walks of Provence is all you need to make your visit fun, memorable, and easy. Inside you'll find short opinionated descriptions of both well-known and off-the-beaten-path sights; detailed walking tours with street-by-street descriptions; and great outdoor markets - plus a travel-planning section to help you arrange your trip!

5-0 out of 5 stars Truth in Labeling
This pocket size guide really does make a trip tp Paris easy. The details by Arrondissement(district/neighborhoods)are very useful. The restaurant/Bistro tips were uniformly solid. The walks were easy to navigate and enriched strolling through Paris. The most useful guide to Paris I have seen.
5-0 out of 5 stars THE guide to pack
I picked up Paris Made Easy just before a return trip to the City of Light, and I wish I'd had it the first time around! The title says it all: the content of this book, the way it's organized, and even its size made it the one guide I used day in and day out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't go to Tahiti without it
Jan Prince's book Tahiti & French Polynesia Guide is undoubtedly one of the best books on Tahiti out there. If you're planning a trip to Tahiti and don't already have it, I suggest you buy it immediately. Between this book and True Tahiti Vacations, our incredible travel agent in Moorea, we planned the honeymoon of our dreams. Now, I'm using the book again to plan our vacation back to Tahiti this year. Thank you Jan!

My husband and I went to Moorea two weeks ago to visit my daughter, who was doing research there.I bought this book on the strength of the reviews on Amazon.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best travel guides
Took this book to French Polynesia in Sept. 2005 and found it to be very helpful.I always buy 4-5 travel books for each destination, read them all during the planning stage, and then take 1 or 2 on the trip with me.I found this book to be very accurate and extremely helpful. We referred to it many times while on the trip.Don't miss this one if you're going to French Polynesia! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Eat stinco!
I am one of the authors of Eating & Drinking in Italy. Nothing can make a trip to Italy more enjoyable and rewarding than a great dining experience. This guide not only helps you find your way around a menu written in Italian, but also will help you find great places to eat in Italy. Even if you speak Italian fluently, we'll bet you a plate of 'stinco' that you'll still need this guide. There are always strange and unusual items on a menu. With this guide tucked inconspicuously in your pocket, you'll know where to dine in Italy and boldly go where you once feared to enter. This guide includes: A great (and down-to-earth) restaurant guide. The most comprehensive Italian menu reader available. Advice on restaurant etiquette. A short Italian pronunciation guide and opinions on everything from what to eat and where to order it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eating & Drinking in Paris
What a great book. You never have to wait in horror to find out whether you ordered sheeps tongue instead of steak. This book takes the mystery out of ordering at a French restaurant. A necessary addition for any traveler to Paris

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly helpful!
I used this small book (easy to carry everywhere) on a recent trip to Paris. I found it incredibly helpful in trying to decipher menus, and when we sat near other Americans they clearly were jealous of this handy guide.5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for a trip to Paris!
This little book - the size is perfect for a purse - was indispensible in Paris.I don't speak French but this guide book let us be confident about what we were ordering without hesitation. It was often borrowed by people at other tables who were having a difficult time.Loved the little "handwritten" notations in the margins. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Worth buying
I now own just about every travel book you can buy on Amsterdam. I am drawn to this one because it isn't too wordy - it provides nothing but the information you need without all the fluff and fuss you find in the other books. It also lists a number of places of interest that the other books don't.
5-0 out of 5 stars Plan a Trip to Amsterdam!
I've always wanted to visit Holland. This guide let me imagine what I'd see and do if I ever get there.Of course, the museums in Amsterdam like the van Gogh Museum or the Anne Frank House are pretty special. The book gives a number of walking tours that take you along the canals.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of useful hints
As other reviews have stated, this book is far from perfect. But I bought it as soon as I read the art-gallery hint (take crayons and paper). We just got back from a Picasso museum, and our 6-year-old was begging for freedom even though she learned about Picasso in kindergarten. The crayons would have been a lifesaver.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not very good
We own every European travel book that exists.I can honestly say that this one is by far the worst one I have seen, hands down. The coverage of accommodations is sparse and only includes extraordinarily expensive hotels, for the most part, and the dining recommendations are little better. There are no unique tips in this guide and it really covers 6 cities, and not very comprehensively.I give an extra star for making the attempt to write a kids travel guide, since they are not common.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste valuable suitcase space with this book.
I bought this book prior to a trip to Italy with my 3-year-old son and was highly disappointed. The authors stick to only the most obvious siteseeing destinations and didn't provide the nitty gritty that a traveler with children really needs. For example, the chaper on Venice of course describes St. Marks, but makes no mention of the playground right near the train station. The Milan chapter mentions "The Last Supper" but overlooks a park we discovered that has a collection of dinosaur statues and a carousel.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars an excellent compact guide
Had I only had this guide for my last trip to Rome.Instead of lugging around bulky Frommers or Fodors, I would have loved Rome Made Easy, a distillation of the city into a compact, highly portable guide.Morris, a veteran guidebook writer, gets to the heart of the city, hitting the essentials without skimping on details. 3-0 out of 5 stars America's Most Charming Towns and Villages
The book covers a lot of territory, the entire United States, listing some of the wonderfull small communities found in this country. Living in New England, I think the book skipped some of the many nice small towns found in our region. I wonder how many other towns in other parts of this nation it did not mention? Nonetheless, the book is a rather good resource for those looking for intersting places to visit. I just wished it had maps, and perhaps, some pictures, to help the reader understand the places pointed out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Showcases more than 200 small town destinations
America's Most Charming Towns & Villages is not a typical travel guide. Larry Brown showcases more than 200 small town destinations scattered throughout the United States. The prospective traveler is treated to information about historic inns, B&Bs, as well as great dining opportunities. Things to do and see hall mark the text, which is further enhanced for the business traveler or vacationer with suggested itineraries, maps, and an index. America's Most Charming Towns & Villages is especially recommended for those who with RV or car-drawn trailer are hitting the open road with the intent of discovering America beyond the narrowed confines of mere tourism.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Yankee Doodle Dandy
Find out what USA Today already knows. This book is a gem for discovering Historical sites, basking in small-town beauty, and having a vacation that is truly realxing. When USA Today wrote about the 10 Best Small Towns to Visit for Christmas what book did they use for their research? Larry T. Brown's October 2000 edition of "America's Most Charming Towns & Villages." Here, readers found out about the unique celebrations held in these small towns: Nevada City's Victorian shopping complete with vendors selling apple cider and roasted chestnuts on their brick streets; Taos's farolitos and sundown procession with bonfires and dancers; Jonesborough, Tenn.where there are no stop lights, and the streetlights shine softly like old gaslights; and Leavenworth, WA- a town of enchanting Bavarianized beauty.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Big Caramel Kiss for the Big Apple
Bestselling travel author Laurie Bain Wilson tempts families everywhere with delicious fun in her newest book.New York City with Kids is a treat from the word go. Wilson has road-tested all of the Big Apple sites with her son Alex, and offers an encyclopedic - and easy-to-read - guide to family-friendly hotels (even those that welcome Fido), restaurants, sights and activities in all of New York's boroughs. For example, Alex, a hot-fudge-sundae connoisseur, raves about Dylan's Candy Bar (p. 96). On a budget? Wilson lists museums with a "pay as you wish" policy (p. 58), so you can enjoy all of the bling without the ka-ching. She recommends the United Nations Gift Shop for terrific souvenirs (p.89) and the New York Gotham Baseball Club for reenactments of games as they were played in 1864 (p. 102). Filled with insider tips, perfect picks for the pint-sized, and great ideas galore, New York City with Kids is a home run! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Travel Guide Period
This is an excellent travel guide that happens to focus on things that are especially appealing when you are traveling with kids. The descriptions of the sites around town are interesting and well done. Even though this edition is a few years old, the restaurant and hotel recommendations were still extremely helpful in the spring of 2006. It was especially nice to have recommendations for places that mainly drew Parisians in areas that had heavy tourist traffic. This enabled my son and I to really experience Paris rather than just be exposed to other tourists. I looked at some other traveling with kids books and even bought the Cadogan guide but this one was head and shoulders above the rest. If you are bringing your child or children to Paris, I would suggest combining this with a guide that includes good maps of the city such as the Moon Metro Paris.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK, but there are better ones out there.
No maps, no discussion of Disney paris, A must for children in Paris.A better one is by Truszkowski, which has great color pics and maps and better info.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Fun!Buy it, pack it and go!
Our family is similar to the authors:Franco-American, two kids (also boys) and a love of Paris. We thought we knew everything there was to know about Paris with kids, but this book taught us a wealth of new material, revealing an entire "new" city.If it could teach these old Paris hands a thing or two, just think what families new to Paris will learn. This book has a great mix of facts, fun, frivolity and fascination scattered throughout its pages, and is all you really need for a well-rounded trip to the City of Light.Buy it, pack it, and go! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars no excuse for a guidebook without maps
One of the most important things when traveling with children is to be able to guage how far apart things are, and how much walking is involved. To do that, you need either very descriptive, detailed text or a good map. This book lacks either one of those things. It clusters attractions by area, but even a limited area can mean a lot of walking - tiring and frustrating when your travel companion is 6 years old.
4-0 out of 5 stars Useful with good ideas
I used this book to help plan a recent family trip to London. It was very useful and gave some great ideas about things to do with kids of various ages. I've been to London a few times before, but never with children, so I wanted a book that would give us ideas on kid friendly activities. This was great in that regard. I gave it four stars and not five because there were no pictures or maps, which would have been nice. I basically used this as a supplement to my Eyewitness London Guide (which was fantastic). I wound up having to carry two books though when I would have preferred to only carry one. If you use this as a supplement it's great, but don't expect this to be your only book for getting around London.
