Let's face it. Whether you're visiting all of New England or merely bopping by Cape Ann or Kennebunkport, you're not going to be able to do and see everything, no matter how long you stay. And while it's always advantageous to know your travel options, a ceaseless onslaught of information can be off-putting. Guidebooks crow about being "comprehensive," but do you really want to wade through descriptions of every hotel, restaurant, museum, park, and monument? With too much input to sort out, preparing for a vacation can begin to feel reminiscent of work. Joe Pickett?Must be the author himself.
As reviewer Joe Pickett said, this book is well-written and enjoyable.My personal preference is for single state travel books, because they are more exhaustive in their coverage, and thus more useful when traveling.The reason for this review is my amusement at finding an earlier review of this book from 2000 written by Joe Pickett.Joe Pickett is the name of the fictional hero of author C.J. Box's excellent mystery series set in Wyoming, and these books started appearing in 2001, after this review, with the award winning Open Season.I love these books, a perfect blend of mystery and western.So what say you, Mr. Box?Did you write the 2000 review for this book?I also can't help but wonder if C.J. Box is your real name.Perhaps you are a relative of Edgar Box, Gore Vidal's famous pseudonym.

Solid basis from which to begin mapping your course...
i thought this book was an excellent primer...i was able to gain an understanding of each area of the states covered: what each has to offer sporting-wise, weather-wise, lodging- and food-wise.of course it is not as in depth as a single state guide book would be, but for those of us looking to explore all three, it provided a solid foundation from which to begin charting our course.enjoyable writing, as well. i had never read 'travel smart' books...getting another today because i was so pleased.

A Great Guide
This book is not exhaustive...and isn't intended to be.It's the lowdown on the best places to go and stay and visit.It's written in a breezy, informed style that is fun to read and, from what I can tell, extremely accurate.Judging from the places I've been able to visit recently(Jackson Hole, Bozeman,Yellowstone) the author is right on.I'drecommend this book highly to anyone traveling into this region. ... Excellent reference guide for East Canadian trip
Trip Planner was a great guide for a week-long camping trip thru Montreal and the Maritimes.The author breaks each location down based on your time of stay so you can plan accordingly.We used the Planner almost exclusively at each location.Works well for anything from tent camping to hotel lodging.Includes ample historical background also ... Full of Wrong Information
Since my wife and I are new residents of Raleigh, NC, I figured this would be a great guide.It has given us some interesting facts about the Carolina and put some areas on our targets to visit. However, it is full of mis-information such as wrong Website URLs, wrong times of operation and incorrect phone numbers.Perhaps this was all valid when the book was written in 1999.I'd recommend saving your money on this book and looking for something more accurate. ... Take-along Travel Guide
I can't say enough about how useful this Travel Smart guide was on our recent trip to the Southwest. As Daniel Gibson claims, he only includes the best of what there is to see and do, only the best places to eat and stay. All this info is rated 1-4 stars and we found the ratings to be surprisingly accurate compared with our own opinions. The book is so organized that it's easy to find what you're looking for; places are cross referenced for easy research. We kept the book with us and read ahead about what was coming up as we traveled. Prices were either right on or close to present charges. Descriptions were interesting and fun to read, and detailed enough to help us decide whether or not we wanted to stop at each attraction.
